Post New member from Sydney. my xj40 and my history of cars.

Hello everyone. My names Tomek. I'm from Sydney, Australia and am turning 17 in 1 month and 1 day from now.

I've always been a huge lover of cars. I started off collecting model cars but by the time I was 14 I was a bit eager for the real deal.

When I was around 14.5 years old, I had saved around $1500 since my very early childhood and the odd job here and there. I decided I should buy my first car. So I did. It was a 1989 Jaguar xj40 sovereign. Fair bit of rust in the usual spots and 315,000 kilometres. I was looking at all sorts of cars, But I was walking home once when I saw a mint Jaguar xj40 come out from my neighbours driveway and I thought it was awesome.

Note: The pictures make it look much better than it was

After 1 year of ownership, I ended up selling it, vowing to never buy such a car so prone to rust. (lol)

One year ago, My brother and I both chipped in money and bought a Golf vr6 (2.8l v6). Its ****ing fast.. Still have it today too!

8 Months ago, I was walking home from school when I saw a Toyota ae86 Sprinter in a small narrow driveway which was covered in bushes behind a kebab shop. It looked awesome and I always wanted a drift pig. I was trying to figure out how I could get my hands on it, for some unknown reason I looked onto my local tow truck driver's facebook fan club and turns out he was selling it! $600 too! yes it was in very bad state but I was very motivated! I ended up selling it one week later for $1600.

So now comes in the best part, 3 months before Im meant to be going for a drivers test, I decided I needed a car to myself. So I bought this. 150,000 kilometers, very very small amounts of rust near boot area but none at rear windscreen seals etc.

That's about all for now at the moment. Props to you if you read this much!

Welcome to the forum Tomek,

Your XJ40 looks better than mine did in 1996! They last much better in the Australian climate than they do in England.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Hiya Tomek,

welcome to the forums. Looks like you'll have a lot of fun with that XJ40. It looks pretty clean, especially under the bonnet

Cheers

Thanks everyone! My only plans for it at the moment is to replace the speakers all around since they sound like absolute crap! Thanks again

Hi Tomek, that's a lovely looking car. As I'm sure you've found out, the XJ40 section here has a wealth of useful information when working on these cars.
