Ballina . . . media interview #1
Hi Clarke, Mike and all;
Thanks to great intro work by Mike in Ballina, we have feature articles and pics lined up with both the Northern Rivers Ballina Advocate and regional radio, Paradise FM.
Unfortunately, Graham Broadhead, the newspaper contact provided by Mike, is on leave, but spoke with Andy Park who has picked up his role. Andy is arranging journo and photographer from local companion newspaper Northern Star to attend Sunday meet - the regional Advocate will then pick up words and pics for a post event feature next week.
I contacted and was interviewed by Jenny Ellenbrauk of Paradise FM - a good piece in the end with highlights on the Jaguar marque, the cars expected to be on display in Fawcett Park, the international community of enthusiasts focused by membership of JaguarForums.com - and the broad belief that this inaugural InterRegional Meet in Ballina will be forerunner of an annual event in the region.
As I had hoped, media interest also latched onto the novelty that the "virtual community" of JF was evolving from the internet into the physical, and attracting participation from Cobar, Armidale, Coffs, Brisbane and SEQ. Great publicity for all - JF; the Jaguar marque; and local interest and tourism in this beautiful region of Oz.
HUGE credit to Mike Dean locally. Mike, I know your work keeps you busy in Byron Bay, but your enthusiasm and efforts to make this meet a success are warmly appreciated.
Take care . . . and see you in Paradise (Ballina, that is)
Ken

I look forward to seeing JF in Ballina becoming equally as attractive a venue and a growing calendar event from members in the future who just simply love the Marque, as I do.
I still don't have a full handle on negotiating the forum communications to be certain of connecting with everyone involved, and apologise if I appear to be lax in responses. For example I hit the reply box on the last message rather than explore other alternatives on the site, and I would ask that if possible could you please post my comments to the best site in the forum to reach all? Thanks.
An update on the current XJ12 S3 go forward woes.
There is much truth in well known "Murphy's Law" phrase?
This is my 16th Cat, 4 of them 12;s. All have performed flawlessly with naturally maintenance and niggly hassles. But the current beauty which is an XJ12 1986 sovereign, 100% original in all respects, decided after the Ballina trip was started to play silly buggers.!
Engine starts, but will not accelerate and stalls. ( It had sat for 6 weeks prior)
Good advice from the forum and a contact at Alto in Sydne y(Andy) started an investigation which has been exhaustive. (We have no Jaguar shop closer than Southport, or any Jag mechanics here)
We learned that there are no air leaks, pressure and fuel supply is perfect. although all symptoms pointed to these possible causes.
I should add that I have a comprehensive library of Jaguar manuals and reference material. The problem is that the motor was one of the last produced in the S3, and originally made for the USA market, but modified to meet the Australian unleaded requirements. ergo no definitive answers, only supplements and impossible to follow and try to reference notes. sort of like feathers round a ducks bum!
Today we traced the probable cause to the electronic ignition system, and by isolating the cold start system (electronic, not an injector), disconnecting the TPC, etc.etc. she started and ran beautifully. However The ignition system seems to be the main culprit, and after dismantling it, (Yes you could on this model) we found a condenser which was badly rusted out.
So now we are trying to locate a replacement in time for Sunday gathering. If all fails I will just have to make do with photos until next time?
Anyway I am an optimist and will do the utmost to bring her to the party.
Much looking forward to meeting with all of the participants and welcoming you to our beautiful town, I am happy to give my mobile number (Removed) to connect directly for those who need any assistance on the weekend. Please feel free to call.

I have quoted your message and added it to the Ballina thread for all to see.
Good luck with getting the car sorted.
If anybody wants to contact Mike, Ken or myself send the person a PM requesting mobile number.
See you all Sunday.

Hi All
Weather along North Coast NSW a bit iffy for this w/e, but apparently warming and clearing early next week for an expected long spell of bright clear and sunny days.
Clarke; any further starters likely to be roused from the Gold Coast or border areas? I'm loathe to intrude because I think you PM'd widely throughout SEQ as I did here in Northern NSW
Growing list. 7 members confirmed . . .
1. cat_as _trophy (Ken) Coffs Harbour
2. o1xjr (Clarke & Kirsty) Brisbane
3. dea.cea1959 (Dave & Deb) Armidale
4. Stoney85 (Nick & Dad, Pete) Bellingen
5. Mike Dean (Mike) Ballina
6.hazjag (Paul) Cobar
7.grandhaze (Paul) Lismore
Mike is working away to secure a superb riverside park setting in full public view at the major entry point into Ballina - great backdrop setting for pics and media coverage. Luncheon looks to be an excellent sit and chat at reasonable club prices at local RSL overlooking the park.
Clarke is traveling down with the JaguarForums banner secured in the now fire-rated compartment he has fitted in the rear end of his XJ - not to be confused with the "boot" we lesser mortals are provided with . . . LOL.
As a further bonus, I'm planning to bring a few "show & tell" items for you to have a play with on the day . . .

Update, Saturday afternoon. Bugger, just realised when setting the GPS for tomorrow we have to hit the road an hour earlier than we planned as you southerners are an hour ahead with that daylight saving rubbish. The bonus is we get home an hour earlier than we planned. May even be early enough to see the Australian Moto GP live.

Hi Dave & Deb,
Ken has suggested some times in post #31 of this thread. We will be arriving around 10.30-11 am at Fawcett Park. Lucky I looked at the GPS today, I hadn't taken into account the time change on the border and would have arrived while the rest of you were eating.
Turns out we could have spent the night in Ballina, work got a bit slack so I had the day off today.

Couldn't make it today as I had the unmissable opportunity to work through my '40 problems with an experienced(30+ years) Jaguar mechanic...
He came to the same conclusions I have, problem is either fuel pump or injectors, first squirt or last..
I hope a great time was had by all. Will definitely keep an eye out for any future local-ish meet ups.

What a Great Day . . . Thanks Mike; Thanks Ballina.
Awesome meet and greet . . . small, but so very rewarding.
How great to catchup and put faces to names . . . cars to stories . . . and share that brilliant sunshine with good company; form new friendships; swap contacts; bathe in some very public interest following our media push.
The hospitality of local member Mike Dean was hugely appreciated, along with our photographers. Special thanks also to Clarke & Kirsty from Brisbane, Dave & Deb from Armidale, several locals who brought out cars (STR and XJ8 Sport) as result of publicity and were urged to become JF members (John, Eric etc), and much traveled Paul from Cobar who bagged every Award for distance to participate ... NB Jim; that was 1,200Km each way . . . and for presenting such a gleaming Sov despite near 300,000Km as a daily drive . . . often on dusty outback gravel roads.
Regret that other commitments saw Ben, Paul, Nick and Pete not able to attend . . . but there is already talk of a follow-up around the region with Dave&Deb and also Ken looking to Inverell. All agreed that Ballina 2014 was a perfect opener. . . and we'll be back to Ballina again!
Let me add to the excellent array of pics from Clarke [o1xjr] . . .

Aaah Jim . . . bar set high? Excellent. Best possible problem.
Enter the sure-fire, foolproof Clarke & Ken strategy (but we have no monopoly) surrounding ourselves with enthusiastic Jaguar lovers; light fuse; encourage, but stand back until your people need a hand. No truth in the rumour that the boot of Clarke's car was full of fireworks the day it burst into flames! NOT TRUE!!!
An example is the enthusiasm which Dave and Deb have shown in looking to help investigate and plan a similar meet at Inverell (not their home town); several hundred Km inland but even so, Paul [hazjag] will still have a 1500Km round trip for that one!
All the best,
Ken

hazjag (Paul) was planning a detour on the way home(away from his shortest route) to drop in on dea.cea1959 (Dave & Deb) for a visit.
Next trick is try and entice this mob up to the Brisbane for the All British Day next year.
