Every Jag Owner needs a Shed . . . Here's How!

1 Attachment(s)
This post comes in 2 parts -
  • first, a heads up for Best Sheds who have opened a Qld branch in Brisbane at 3779 Pacific Highway Tanah Merah 4128. Open 6 days a week and with several sheds on display <link to Best Sheds>
  • a cartoon is attached, no doubt inspired by Oz Jaguar Owner sheds to entertain you with my trademark (warped) sense of humour . . . in addition, I swear I sense an uncanny resemblance to my long time co-driver and partner, Christine.
Once again, I assure you I have no commercial interest in Best Sheds other than as a (twice) satisfied customer. Well . . . almost satisfied. That at my former farm was a cracker . . . would have easily fitted 4 Cessnas. However, my latest at Inverell is 12.5m x 10.5m yet, with 6 Jaguars inside, I find it should have been bigger. Moreover, my 2post overhead hoist doesn't fit. Planning another!

All that aside however, I am trying to negotiate a loyalty discount for JF members in Qld. If so, I will post details.

Cheers & best wishes to all,
:icon_toast:Ken

I see the Australian "shed" isn't anything like the English "shed" - a small wooden hut at the bottom of the garden!

Ah Graham . . . to each his own eh? Some would argue that no matter how big (or small) the shed, there is no shortage of "stuff" to fill it with. The unexpected benefit of a decent sized shed is how cheap they are relative to floor area . . . I find it more expensive to lay down the steel reinforced concrete floor.

Cheers mate,

Ken,

"Stuff" sometimes frightens me. We've lived in the same house for over thirty years and it's amazing how many useful items are tucked away because I might need them one day.

That's true here too on floors. I replaced my timber garage a few years ago and the new concrete base was 50% more than the building.

Mine in under construction

Slab is down and parts arrive tomorrow, construction begins next Monday
Its 30m*18m with awnings on 2 sides. I have left enough room to add another 30mx6m awing latter on.

Im also putting 15kw of solar on the roof, 20kw of battery storage and 3 phase output

I have been taking videos of the build which are on aour facebook page but can also be downloaded here.

Looking good James, the front yard has changed a bit since last time we visited.

It works from the link in post #6, but not from post #8. (even though the link looks identical in both)

Yes, James, that's a shed! I know that you are moving to go "off grid" but best and latest info for those of us using PVs "on grid" (at least in NSW) sees FITs (feed in tarrifs) limited to 10Kw installations. Mine is presently only 6Kw /3phase but has turned my quarterly bills into significant quarterly credits. I can see benefits in adding a further 4Kw.

Just for the record James, and not asking for actual $, can you give us some proportion of costs for floor, shed kit, and any extras (not solar). For my 18m x 18m on farm, with 18m x 6m mezzanine, the split was about 50/50. For my current one in Inverell, split was about 60% floor, and 40% shed kit.

Best advice I can offer . . . keep the shed kit as standard as possible and modify onsite eg internal fitout, skylights, windows, PA doors.

I have kept the slab costs down by not doing a slab under the 2 awnings
That almost halved the concrete cost

As it stands
Retaining walls 14%
Earthworks 3%
Slab 18%
Shed 34%
Construction, approvals, building insurance ect 30%

Without earthworks and retaining wall
Slab 22%
Shed 42%
Construction 36%

I have left out the driveway, landscape, electrical and fit out, water tanks costs ect
As a rough rule the best you can do price wise is 4-5 times the prices shown in those shed flyers
Some quotes were closer to 10 times

Some Progress on the shed.
With some luck and the no rain will have the shed watertight next week.
Then its onto the driveway, fit out and landscaping

You can use the one on the far right. It opens onto a 40deg ramp, so you will fell at home!!

The hoist will be behind the door on the left, accessible from the front and side doors. The awnings are yest to go on
