lazy electric windows 1980 xj6
Welcome Brown's Cows . . .
Got your surname, but you will find that, at least here on the Aussie regions, first names are more our thing (unless you are uncomfortable).
It is both etiquette and a Forum requirement to post an intro in the New Members Area, so I suggest you duck away and do that so you can be properly welcomed. Be sure to ask Graham (GGG) for the FREE X150 that is being given away with each new membership this month!

Now, as to your question regarding geriatric window mechs . . . well they are about 40 years old! Be prepared for a bit of reading, particularly among the Stickies of your specific XJ6 Forum section. Many will swear to a careful whiff of silicone spray in the upper guides, but that is only half the job.
The process of carefully removing the door cards is there and, believe me, all work on lubricating the mechanism as well as checking the upper sections of the guides, is dependent on getting good access.
There is more, but it all starts there. Post back when you get that done.
Cheers,

Hi Cat_as_trophy Thanks for your tips. I will have a crack at your suggestion and see how I go.
I am still finding my way around this forum. Age is not a help. Cheers Gordon Brown

if no joy hen remove the door cards to give the regulator mechanisms a good clean-n-lube.
Dirty contacts inside the window switches can inhibit current flow. The switches can be opened up to clean the contacts.

Hello again Gordon,
DD has given you the steps that go beyond the silicone spray that I find can be temporary at best on these now aged machines. In my experience, it is often the regulator mechanisms and the 40-50 year old body grease that needs to be cleaned out and replaced with nice fresh lube.
Aaah . . . but I find that it is a very handy excuse . . .
Don't hesitate to keep us posted on your progress, and pics are always appreciated, especially of the grand XJs. Very friendly bunch surrounding you in the Sunshine State, and we are happy to help out wherever possible.
