Secondary Timing Chain Tensioners
2001 XKR Phoenix
30k KM VIN SAJFA42BX1PA22744 have read lots of posts and Internet articles about this issue. can someone give me some info as to whether or not I need to proceed with a preventive replacement of these troublemakers based on the vin and engine number I have posted. much appreciated |
Check your driver door jamb placard. If your build date was July 2001 or earlier you have the old tensioners and need to upgrade.
If your build date was August 2001 or later, call your local Jaguar dealer with your VIN and get then to look up your engine number. If you have an engine number of greater than 0108130000 then you have the new tensioners, if it is less, then you need to upgrade. All this assuming you have an original engine in your car. |
thanks
May 2001 Build Makes my choice easy I'll be on it this week Thanks again |
if you replace the secondary tensioners with the zip tie method it only takes about 4 hours at a cost of about $300. It's worth the piece of mind knowing you won't loose an engine.

Had the 2ndary tensioners replaced last week $1000 CDN. Good thing I did. Cracks were evident even at 18 k miles. Thanks for the help amigo.
