1994 Jaguar XJS12 2+2 in BRG Reconditioned

This was an interesting detail for me. I've never detailed a car "this old" and I kept thinking it was older than it actually was due to the body style being the same since the 70's! This car is a beast though with the Jag V12. Even in 94 this car had heated and massaging seats! Now that's what I call luxury ;).
BTW excuse the lesser quality pics, I forgot to charge my DSLR and used the Sony P&S and just kept using it throughout the detail. The car was in for a whole exterior makeover, and an interior touch up. I spent around 15 hours on this car. When it first arrived to me: Attachment 181792 (large scratch that needed to be taken care of. Luckily it passed the "fingernail test" so I knew it wouldn't be difficult to remove) Attachment 181793 http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...J/DSC00616.jpg First up, as always, was the wheels. Before: http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...J/DSC00611.jpg Attachment 181794 They were first pressure rinsed to get rid of as much surface dirt as possible. Then I sprayed Autoglym custom wheel cleaner on the rims, and the tires/wheel wells received P21S TAW. Attachment 181795 Attachment 181796 Next the engine bay was CAREFULLY degreased. First I "rinsed" with the hose on "mist" as to not soak any of the 15 year old electronics. Then I sprayed P21S TAW on areas easy to reach, and away from electrical components, and then carefully agitated with a boars hair brush. http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...J/DSC00623.jpg Attachment 181797 Attachment 181798 Attachment 181799 After the engine bay was re "rinsed" I moved on to the body of the car. I foamed with with CG CWC and then followed that up with a 2 bucket CWC wash. Attachment 181800 Once that was complete I clayed the car with Megs Professional Mild clay and ONR as lube. I then taped up all the chrome trim and seals to prep for polishing. The combination for this car was a 3 step polish. 3M UK Fast Cut Plus on a 3M UK Yellow pad, followed by SIP on a 3m UK Yellow Pad, and then refined with Ultrafina on a 3M UK Blue pad. Befores: Attachment 181801 http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...J/DSC00631.jpg 50/50 in the sun before ultrafina: Attachment 181802 Attachment 181803 Most of the paint was corrected easily, but a few deep RIDS remained: Attachment 181804 The hood complete: http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...J/DSC00654.jpg |

Attachment 181772 (scratch still needs some attention) Mirror before: Attachment 181773 After: Attachment 181774 Door/Scratch refined: Attachment 181775 And then one more pass for the one on the fender: Attachment 181776 Trunk before: Attachment 181777 And after: Attachment 181778 Rear quarter corrected, door not: Attachment 181779 Close up: Attachment 181780 Before LSP in the sun: Attachment 181781 Attachment 181782 Next was the interior. Sorry I forgot to take befores.. for some reason I never do this on interiors. I guess I don't really know how to take good before/afters of interiors like the exterior  Any tips would help! The leather was treated with LM Trio. Carpets cleaned with CG Citrus Pad Cleaner, and protected with 303 FG. Wood got Zaino AIO. Afters: Attachment 181783 Attachment 181784 The wheels were polished by the GF with Werkstat Prime and the protected with Acrylic. Tires got Megs HD 2:1 and wheel wells were dressed with Adams Undercarriage Spray. Attachment 181785 The LSP was Blackfire Wet Diamond which was topped by Midnight Sun Carnuba. I tossed around the idea of seeing how AB would look on BRG but opted to go with this combo for some more testing. |

Lovin the finished article d00t and the many pics + write up....all good:) Be great to see some more in this section. Are you a professional detailer or a serious enthusiast? The reason I ask is ....I have an A6 with more than a few swirl marks after nearly 3 years and 60k miles, and I look after my car:icon_look: I know an enthusiast ( not professional detailer but could be - been at it for 20 years ) who will correct my paintwork for around £300. It'll take him and assistant approx 20 man hours . Something I intend to get done pretty soon. Maybe you could tell us a little more about you? |
