Crazing Paint/Failing Clear Coat?
Greetings, paint-masters....
I have a 1992 XJS where in one area on the boot the paint is getting pretty bad. The paint on the roof isn't great, but it's very bad here, and in a small concentrated area for some reason. Is this a failing clear coat? The close-up pics make it look almost as if the paint is chipping away from scratches. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...8b6e947099.jpg Overall view of the area. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...80190fdeb8.jpg Just this one part by the wing. (The brownish look is the reflection of the house next door.) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...be052eb24e.jpg Close-up, the paint appears crazed and cracking. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...3ec3e49a26.jpg I've experimented with rubbing compound, by hand. No apparent change. It's not very attractive, and while I'm not a fanatic about the paint, I do want to keep it in decent condition. But any suggestions and advice will be gratefully received.... |
