Default 2005 X-Type 2.0D - MPG

Hey guys,

The lure of owning a big cat again was too strong. I sold my 2.0 petrol X-Type a while back, but I finally got my hands last week on a 2005 2.0D saloon and I have to say I love it. It came with a FSH first 5 with Jaguar then last 2 with a local garage (every 12500 miles) My question is this what MPG should I be looking at? I stuck £20 in it when I picked it up and I got roughly 34-35 mpg, mainly round town and a good thrash down the A1, I keep reading about people getting 50 mpg or at least into the mid 40's. Should my mpg be higher? If so can anyone give me some pointers towards what I can do to increase my mpg.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers Steve

Hi Storriers,

Not sure if you are still interested as this was posted in April, but I thought I'd would share my figures.

My last tank which was mostly a fully loaded car as we were driving on holiday was 42.8 mpg for the tank.

I seem to manage between 39 and 45 'whatever' I do, I do have a bit of a lead welly so honestly believe I could get more if a slowed done abit.

On the motorway cruise control defiantly get more mpg than manual, but it is difficult to just glide along majestically with the numpties sitting in the outside lane nowadays.

Cheers

Hi 2litre diesel xtype owner, I get about 41 to 42 around town and definitely more on mway.
I put 60litress in tank and each time get just over 500 miles.
Hope this helps

My old 07 2.2D Xtype estate used to get 33mpg to 35mpg all town 50mpg to 55mpg motorway looks like the 2.0D has much better mpg for town driving.
