X type 2.0d missfire from Rickover and diesel knock

I have a 2006 xtype 2.0d, I first of all had a egr problem, i did all relevant checks and found the vacuum hose was split going to the diaphragm, i replaced the hose, cleared codes and all was well, the car was running better than ever for approx 100 miles until I started to feel what can only be described as a missfire under acceleration, no eml though, the car seamed to run ok around town, later that day I was back on the motorway, as I accelerated from 50mph the coil light started to flash, I came off the motorway at the next junction and the car cut out, I started the car straight away and the coil light stayed off but it was running a little rough but I managed to get the car home, I left it for a hour or so, I next went out to try the car again, it was very lumpy on tickover and as soon as you pull off there was terrible diesel knock and heavy black smoke.
up to now Iv checked codes and there is none saved, Iv checked egr valve which is clean, checked the hose from egr to intercooler for splits and that is fine, Iv changed fuel and air filters and it's still just as bad, I'm going to try a leak off test of the injectors tomorrow.
Does anyone have any other ideas that Iv missed?
Thanks in advance

Hi Steward1986
I have had this issue on two Jags now and both times it turned out to be a faulty injector, the symptoms are IDENTICAL. If you accelerate hard to above 4,000 rpm you get the glow light on and the engine cut's out. Switching the ignition off for 1 sec and back on whilst in gear clears the issue. Other symptoms are a slight 'misfire' under very light acceleration and bad idling.

Do a leak test on the injectors. Injectors leak one of two ways i've discovered, either back through the return fuel line, OR direct into the cylinder. When it leaks into the cylinder, the fuel pre-ignites which is what is causing the knocking sound. You may also find that the faulty injector is also leaking fuel back via the return, and this fuel is almost jet black which is carbon from the engine.

This was a video i did of a leak test on mine with the really bad injector on cylinder number 2....

Steward1986 double posted this question here and in X-type forum on 26th December 2017:

You have replied here and another member gave similar advice in X-Type forum. Unfortunately Steward1986 has not been back on the forum since 27th December 2017 and probably hasn't seen either reply.
