Dip Stick Accuracy
Yesterday I added 7 qts of oil and 2 qts of Lucas stop leaks for 9 qts total. The sump was fully empty and I did not change the filter,
since it was changed 300 miles ago before I dropped the pan to fix leaks.
So today I checked for any leaks overnight (there were none) and I checked the oil level. It is same as yesterday and is at the "E" mark
on the stick, well below the knurled area which is supposed to show the normal range of oil level.
My manual says the capacity is 18 US pints refill including the filter. I am afraid that adding more oil is going to be an overfill.
The dip stick does not appear to be able to have the stop disk move. I measured the distance of the "E" mark to the dip stick
stop disk and it is 9 1/4 inches measured direct, and 9 1/2 inches measured along the dip stick. The dip stick has a red circular handle indicating to wait
1 minute before checking the level.
Anyone have any ideas about how the 9 qts doesn't indicate a full oil supply?
BTW. I have not run the engine, since I have removed the exhaust system and rear torsion plate in order to remove and reinstall the pan.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

A followup comment. From the measurement you can tell that the stick is bent. I have attached a couple of photos.
Reading on the "E-Type forum", someone reported that the straightened dip stick read in the knurled area.
Can someone confirm whether the did stick is supposed to be straight.

Well, when I straightened the dip stick, it now reads oil to the top of the knurled area indicating a full
oil supply.
Also, completed assembling all the miscellaneous components required to re-gasket and seal the sump
and no leaks.
Did get a scare though. When I went for the test drive, the oil pressure went to 40 lbs, and then slowly
went down to zero. Thought I was going to start all over. Coasted back into the garage, and started the engine
several times. Had the same rise and fall, but then it started to rise and no longer fall. Now oil pressure
is behaving as expected. I am assuming that there was air in the pressure sensor since I had the pan dropped
for a couple of weeks and thus no oil in the system.
Whew! A real scare.
