68 XKE. Fan belt is rubbing on the water pump hose. Makes a squealing sound that has been getting louder recently. The fan belt could be old. I'm thinking it could have stretched? Are the fan belts on your guys xke's this close?

 

From memory... if you loosen alternator pivot bolts and hold off-bracket, then pull alternator as far as possible from center of engine, the belt will tighten and pull the idler pulley away from coolant hose, Then tighten alternator hold-off bracket and alternator pivot thru bolt.

 

That was the problem!.I had the alternator loose a few weeks ago and didn't put it back in the right position. Thanks david84xj6.
