Newbie Question #32 Where is the Electric Fuel Pump

Ok, I believe I need a new fuel pump. Per repair manual, I have pulled out the spare tire on my 73 S3 2+2. It looks like the fuel pump is located underneath the car as the lines go into the body forward of the spare wheel. Can anyone shed some light on where it is located. I don't have the car up on jack stands yet (wish I had a lift). Thanks, Jim

Hello Jim,
Its tucked up inside the R/H rear quarter panel at the rear of the rear inner wheel arch. The pump is accessed from inside the car. The frame holding the pump is secured to the rear surface of the rear inner wheel arch, the securing bolts for which are accessed from out side the car at the rear of the R/H rear wheel arch.

Regards,

Brent

Brent - do you know how to acess from inside the car? I dont see an access panel with the spare tire out. I also looked under the rear parcel shelf in front of the wheel well and saw factory foam glued to the body. I just don't see an access point to the pump. Is it under the parcel shelf and the glued foam? Thanks so much. Any help is grealty appreciated. I am still learning the cars.

Ok. Boy do I feel stupid. I found the fuel pump. If anyone else is wondering, there is a small oval shaped access panel on the right rear inside of the boot. unscrew the one screw, slide the cover plate out and there she is. One less thing to learn about my new jag.

Sounds like you need to try finding a workshop manual, and hopefully too, a parts manual. There should be something on the internet. If you look at the parts drawings on the SNG Barratt website, you'll what the parts manual has in it.
When I did a partial rebuild of an '80 XJ6, I had both, and could not possibly have done the job without them. Even if you get a shop to do work, at least you can find out what is involved in the work.
