Part Left over on SII EType
 

I'm feeling a clot. Over many weeks, I've taken off the starter motor (and to get at it the air filter holder and steel tray underneath). I've put it all back, except steel tray when I find the a thin pipe with banjo-type connect - see attached/included photo. The twisted pipe is about 70mm long and the circumference of the connection is about 17mm. It looks a breather pipe to me, but I'm damned if I can see where I took it from. Yes, I know I should have used a camera!!

Gosh Bob, so it does. I don't recall taking it off, and I can't think why I would have - unless it's the leftmost carb and I took it off to allow access to the starter bolt ? I can't get around to the garage till Tuesday, so I'll need to puzzle over it until then. Cheers, John

Spot on Bob!! Left carb vent pipe, pipe interfered with access to top starter motor bolt. Now replaced and twisted slightly to allow access to starter motor bolt that will need to come off again!! Cheers, John

All 3 carb vent pipes should go through a square clip on the mounting bolt for the oil pump block. See # 6 in the link below. The pipe ends shouldn't be by the starter or anything that sparks. The float could stick and dump fuel on the starter when you're starting the vehicle.

Guys, I am joining this conversation late. Just spent considerable time researching the routing of those overflow pipes. As Bob mentioned, there is a square clip. It secures the front pipes: the rear pipe runs separately through a single clip. The clips attach to the mud guard (around the torsion bar) and 2 holes in it will show you where. The pipes mount on the outside of the mud guard. Hope this helps. Bill
