Default Starting the Restore!! Only 29k miles!! Advice Please

Hey Everyone,

New to the forum as of 15 minutes ago (30 min after I just towed the family Jaguar to Jersey). It is a 69 xke 4.2. Two stromberg Carbs.

It has 29k miles on it. No thats not a typo. I am mechanically inclined and work on cars all the time, but I wanted to get advice from the jag experts as to where to start?

I am also not familiar with old classics like this one. It has been garage kept for 20 years. Obviously check the gas tank, needs tires, all new fluids, belts, hoses ETC.

I just dont know where to start...
I am located near the JB MDL in Mt Holly Nj.

I will post photos soon. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Everyone!!!

Has it not run for those 20 years in a garage ? I took over an MG Midget after a 14 year lay-up, but it was started and warmed through occasionally although not run on the road. Re-commissioning of the Midget involved replacement of all fluids, and freeing-off of the clutch. You'll probably also find the clutch won't free-off and you may have some difficulty doing this, as it is a known Jaguar syndrome. In the end, you might have to split the engine and gearbox to get at the clutch.

You do need to make sure all the brake calipers are free and working, and check all the flexibles. Suspension joints should all be OK. Exhaust system may be rotted out, so plan for a replacement in stainless steel. Battery will be shot and alternator output needs checking.

PS - all the tyres are well life-expired, so it is essential these are replaced even if the tread depth is OK
