I don't want to rain on anybody's parade but if the insurance company paid off when it was first stolen, doesn't the car theoretically belong to them?


furthermore, I am surprised customs was able to find the owner since he must have changed addresses many times since it was stolen. But at any rate I don't think the insurance company would contest present day ownership if even if they had paid out because that lawyer/owner sounds much too well practiced to go up against...
