timing chain tools for v12
does anybody have a retractor tool for timing chain on 5.3l? thought i might be able to get sproket off cam w/o this but have been persuaded thats not possible- how about sprocket retention tools?- would be glad to rent em or will buy used- can find nothing local- thanks

hi the timing cover does not have to come off but if the chain tench breaks it does, I made a tool from a battery hold down stud because one end has a hook to pull up on the tench you also have to release the tench so it will raise as you pull up on the tench if you want you can call me 973-670-0406 9-9 est steve

thanks steve- was able to manufacture a retractor of my own from a 12" carriage bolt- round off 3 sides and formed a hook on the 4th side- put that inside a short length of pipe with washer and nut on the end-worked like a charm- have removed sprockets to the support brackets- and now need to remove tool to pull heads- do i release the tensioner or does that somehow stay retracted during period when heads are off?- many thanks

chain
when you release it, it springs down it has a spring pulling it down just have to pull it back up to install when done and release the tench again steve
