toggle switches
hello.
I have been working on restoring my father's 1967 e type for the past couple of years and have a question on toggle switches on the dash. The low photo shows the dash switches. Are these all standard and what / why were they used? Thank you in advance. bill The car in question https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...22d1695218.jpg The toggle switches Right hand top = fuel pump manual on/off center = engine fan (I think( left = mysteryDad enjoying a parade |

My dad remembers that the car had an aftermarket ac unit... The right most one is an aux on off for the fuel pump (why??) Bill |
The six on the bottom row are standard factory issue; all the others are add-ons. You'll have to trace the wires to see what they're supposed to do...if operating them doesn't provide the answer

Wonder if he bypassed original switches if they became inoperative?? Otherwise trace and verify

right hand switch controls fuel pump. confirmed.
center toggle controls an aux fan which can be used to cool the engine (installed when an after market a/c unit was installed which has since been removed). I have not been able to sort out the last one. |
hydraulic ejection seat maybe? If that's it, give me a moment to grab my wife, she loves flipping switches to see what they'll do, figure it could be a learning moment... :)

It does seem a pity, those extra holes were added in what might be a difficult panel to find.

keep one of the switches to shut the fuel pump off, but hide it under the dash where it doesn't show ! ( it is important to have a way (other than the key) to
shut off the fuel pump !!!! for instance when the car won't start because the carbs are flooded and gas is being continually pumped you have the potential for a FIRE ! so having a switch to shut off the fuel pump is always a good idea. Take out all the add-on unnecessary switches and recover the metal dash area with vinyl, or use black plastic hole plugs to close the holes that the removed switches occupied. |
You can get dash panels on eBay (I bought an entire dash and had it powder coated myself). I think the center panel cost me something like $100 so it wasn't bad. Agree on the fuel pump switch, that is a great ideal.
