I like it! I would also put a high heat gloss over the caliper as well if you have the time also, that will assure that your leaper decal will stay put, and help prevent some of the paint chipping during pad removal next time (and look nicer too) I would keep the leaper on the front only though...no need to go overboard on front AND rear. lol

Great job! Show us what it will look like behind your wheels as well. Would like to see that.

I actually did spray some high heat gloss afterwords. I plan on washing it today since it stopped snowing yesterday and chances of precipitation are lowfor the following days,so after the wash I will take some pics, (no leapers on the rear). Bad thing is that I have 16" sized dealer rims, so you can't see them that well but I plan on getting some 19" later.

RE: Painted my Calipers Sunday

Inspired by Jim and a couple others on here, I actually painted my calipers a month and a half ago - black. Instead of starting another thread, i thought i'd post the pics w/ yours super-jag.

The fronts were not coated, and were EBC aftermarket ones. The outer edge and cooling fins on the rotor, along with the hat were corroding - U G L Y. I took them off at the same time and painted these as well.

The rear rotors were original equipment (as far as I know) and had some coating, but the hat was a little rusty, so off they came as well.

(this pic isn't very good - P&S, but shows the rotors/calipers w/o the wheel on. The gold spot on the caliper is just flash reflection.

Super-jag and H20, looks nice, you've inspired me to do the same. I have 17s, dark blue metallic paint on the car, so what do you think about matching the colour for the calipers?

Two questions: Did you clean with engine cleaner? and why type of paint did you use, just high-temp spray on?

THANKS GUYS

RE: Painted my Calipers Sunday

For an s-type, that's a tough one. I would stay away from the real flashy colors like bright yellow or red, doesn't suit your ride IMO. I would think either a gloss silver or black would look nice, maybe gold...or perhaps a deep, ruby red behind those rims?. you want them to be noticed, but not the first thing that someone sees...more like a detail that is observed after the car first catches your eye. Matching your exterior color is a different idea, but afriad you may not find a correct match in the standard spray colors that your store will stock. I have used both the paint by brush kit, and spray cans. The sprays work well for those rotors too, but need more than one coat (unlike the brush kits) to get a good thickness on the surface. If you have time, definately give it two coats.

RE: Painted my Calipers Sunday

Oh, and I cleaned my rotors and calipers with regular ol' brake cleaner before doing them up.

RE: Painted my Calipers Sunday

guys can you go into some detail about how you did the paint and what you used for paint. do you need to remove the calipers from the disc and such.
i would love to do this to my xj8 also were do you get the decals?

RE: Painted my Calipers Sunday

I've never painted my Calipers..But if I were to, I would remove them and clean them really well and prep them before the painting..There is special Hi-temp caliper paint on the market..I've seen it at Pepboys.
