A friend of mine bought off those tyre valve caps and see the difference .
I think those items are cool ones :icon_playing:

See the difference before / after .

MyBlackCat 03-10-2010 12:52 PM

I bought the "R" caps from Mina, look nice.

Those look nicer :)

Spitfire 03-22-2010 06:37 PM

I bought a set like the ones you're showing JimC64, but in white. They're great! I was hesitant at first because they were coming from China, but they took no time at all to get, and it came with a nifty Jaguar keychain wrench to tighten them on.

I bought mine off of ebay, the seller was rainbowgift2009.

Cheers!

Nice Spitfire:)
Being a Patriot I have the Saltires ( as below ) on my A6...Love them and also have a spare set for future. These have an anti theft system incorporated, its a little set screw that once the valve cap has been tightened is locked right up to prevent the kiddies from removing them for their bikes:icon_no:

Those look sweet Jim!

I'd take a shot of mine on my tires, but it's still mucky weather here right now and my rims et al need a good cleaning once the decent weather finally arrives.

I'll post some pics once they're respectable again :)

Thanks Spitfire:)
Lookin forward to the pics of yours on your wheels at some point.

Coincidentally - I know I've commented on your avatar of the Spitfire before, beautiful plane.
I have a Gold Spitfire tie pin that I wear on occasion.

I also bought some new center hubs for my Jag too. The ones on her when I bought her were terrible. These ones are fantastic!

Hi Spitfire, lovin the pics of the rims with the Jag tyre valves:) They're really classy, yet understated at the same time..Nice one!
The New Jaguar growler centre caps really help to finish off the rims which also seem in top notch condition......Beautiful:):)

One thing I noticed and a small criticism, that I hope you don't mind....
I was surprised to see that someone who obviously takes great care and pride in their vehicle as you obviously do has wheel balance weights on the outside of the rim?:icon_no:
If I were you I'd get those removed immediately and rebalanced with the weights on the inside for an even better / cleaner look.
If you do decide to go down this road please, please be careful as there is a very good chance of damage as you remove these weights....another reason for them being on the inside.

Thanks for sharing the pics of the rims with the valves and centre caps:)

Spitfire 04-04-2010 08:50 PM

Jim - I couldn't agree with you more! The weights were on the outside when I bought the car in January and the first thing I thought was that whomever put them there should be shot! I am a bit fearful when they're removed as i don't know what condition the rims are underneath. I am going to have them moved to the inside in fairly short order.

I've got a fair bit planned in the tire department. New slotted, cross drilled rotors are on my list, as are ceramic pads. The amount of brake dust the current pads are generating is driving me crazy! I also want to take the tires off so I can clean the inside of the rims and paint the calipers.

Question - given the look of the car and tires, should I paint the calipers black or silver?

Rob

Translator 04-05-2010 04:48 AM

Those type of balance weights just unclip so you should be OK.(just make sure it is the tyre shop that removes them) I hope. I have always used Flat alloy wheel balancing weights with alloys which stick onto the horizontal flat part of the exterior of the rim and are fairly unobtrusive.

But I have pretty much always had to weight both interior and exterior sides to get it right. (I'm lucky in that my local garage owner is a longstanding friend, who allows me to use all his kit, with the proviso that I give him a lift if he is a bit pushed from time to time.)

Black would hide them, IMHO silver = tacky, although why not red?

Like the valve caps, as a legacy from my L/R days I still have my L/R caps on the old XJ.

Cheers,

Hey Spitfire, the cross drilled rotors and ceramic pads will make the car look even more awesome when done, and I've no doubt you'll do a great job, maybe even a write up with pics to show it off some?
What pads have you decided on? EBC Redstuff / Akebono?
I've included a few links below that you might find interesting Spitfire?

painting_calipers_n_hubs_for_the_mondeo
A6_painting_hubs_n_calipers
unrelated_but_u_might_find_intersting?

As for the colour of the calipers Spitfire, essentially its your car and your choice, but here's my observations for what they're worth.
Your car looks like a really clean, loved n looked after example that is slightly upgraded here n there but more or less looks stock - thats the way I see it!
If I were you I'd paint the hubs before fitting ( silver to match the inners of the alloy / rim and to stop the rusty/grimy look from wasting the overall look. As for the calipers? Again I'd go for silver (just a really clean, but stock looking finish ).....If you do decide to go for the EBC Redstuff pads, you'll get a tiny RED flash off the pads against the calipers with the black wheel wells and clean blacked tyres giving a really clean sexy but stock look.
Just FYI I fitted EBC Redstuff to my X type and they offered excellnet stopping power combined with much reduced dust too...All good:)

Whatever you decide, I'm sure they'll look great when finished and hope that you decide to do a write up with pics for the site:icon_wink:

dervdave 04-06-2010 10:53 AM

I only use plastic caps now after a metal one `welded` itself to the valve stem and had a right job to get it loose because the whole valve was turning.
The local kids never had that trouble !

As for the local kids.....thats cos they all have pliers or mole grips in their back pockets:icon_hyper:

One of my caps came with this . Yuo need to use it prior to installing the caps and hence no stuck problem :icon_hyper:

Spitfire 04-18-2010 12:42 PM

Didn't get that with mine. What do you expect I guess when you buy something directly from China. :icon_shrug: I'm going to go down to Canadian Tire and see if I can find that stuff. It's made by Loctite so shouldn't be too hard I hope.

ndy4eva 04-19-2010 05:04 PM

I ordered one as well. :)
Thanks for the tip.

I think I'll install the EBC Redstuff. I had checked those out before you mentioned them. Good to see that you did, so they must be decent pads. Need to get a complete set ordered in.

And pics? You bet. I'll do the whole thing and post.

The only issue is when. I pulled my lower back which has caused a major sciatic problem. Apparently can't lift more than 10lbs as per the Doc. Grrrrrrr......

Great stuff Spitfire...you won't regret the EBC Redstuff pads I'm sure. They'll look great with the cross drilled rotors too!
Are you adding the Jag valve caps too?
I'm looking forward to a full, all singing all dancing write up c/w lots of before during and after pics.....no pressure....lol

Sorry to hear about your back though, I sympathise. I put mine out 7 years ago and its never been right since, comes and goes though, good days and bad....Chiropractor helps some!
I know how you feel though. I had all my wheels off last week to clean / de-tar the inner wheel wheels and clean the wheel wells too. I had them all off today again to repaint the calipers n hubs....looks absolutely fabulous, but jeeesh I'm sore:icon_no:

sempire 09-21-2010 12:45 PM

I had some of those on my other car, and then 6 months later when I went to put air in the tires I find out that the aluminum oxidized a bit and seized to the valve.. Never again..

P onca 11-05-2010 09:07 PM

Hi Spitfire, new to the forum. I love your centre caps. I'm waiting for a set of BBS 20" Sepangs to arrive for Spring mounting on my X350 VDP and was wondering where you sourced the centre caps and if they will fit on the Sepangs on even on my current factory 18" wheels.
Thanks, P onca

WhiteXKR 11-05-2010 09:19 PM

I have had aluminum valve caps sieze up also like some of the other posters on my S-Type. I am giving them one more try on my XKR with a generous amount of anti-sieze paste. Hope it works.
