Just wanted to see if anyone has any input on this.
In the morning or after the car sits for a couple of hours for the first 30ft or so the car makes a rotational hum from the rear end.

I don’t have any play in the wheel bearings and the prop shaft is brand new as of 15k miles ago.

My next bet is to take off axles and check them and the rear end for play in the bearings, I don’t think that’s a common failure point on these though.

Car is a 2002/3 2.5 5spd with 150k miles.

So my 2003 Jaguar X Types right side cv half shaft outer boot got nicked by road debris and I am in the process of replacing the boots. So I got the boots off and cleaned up the parts. Everything looks good and there is no excessive wear. Problem is the inner CV boot is stupidly expensive. $70+ for a piece of rubber and some grease! A NEW CV half shaft complete is $60 for a ready to go plug and play part! Hell the OEM rebuilds are around $100. This is crazy! I feel really bad just tossing the original shaft simply because the cost of a boot is almost twice the cost of the entire assembly.

Car has been sitting all winter, but looking to get back on her now that warm weather is here.

She is a 2006 3.oL auto with ABS and DSC and intermittent codes after she warms up.
General consensus is cold solder in the ABS board. I am having trouble finding a replacement locally. WIll try and pull it down for repair.
Car is stuck in limp mode with the red !..
IF I hook up my laptop with the old JLR software to the car can I turn off DSC, or tell the car not to look for it? Basically over ride the error.

The other question would be if I start it up and the lights are not on, can i hold down the dsc button to shut it off prior to it getting hot and throwing the error?

Thanks guys

I checked for codes with an aftermarket Wifi based OBD reader - now my car won't start. I get the dash indicator lights coming on with the ignition, but when I turn the key I hear a single click, the dash lights go out then come back on and then I hear a weird whirring sound from beneath the dash. Obviously the car doesn't crank. AI says to check some fuses - I have yet to do that as to add insult to injury I am locked into my apartment as the lock has seized. I am waiting for the locksmith as I write this. In the meantime anyone know what likely is wrong?

The tailgate glass does not open on my Estate/Wagon. I thought it would be nice to fix this so I found the section in the workshop manual with instructions. First remove the rear wiper. Easy peasy. The next steps require the glass to be open. Except it doesn't open because the latch isn't working... It looks like the glass also holds the tailgate panel (the plastic cover bit that would be a "door card" if it was a door) captive so I can't open the entire tailgate and work my way in to the latch. Am I done for or is there another way to unlatch the rear window glass?

Hello everyone! I am a new owner of a 2003 Jaguar X-Type with 45,000 miles (got the car for $5500). What do you think? I just picked it up about a week ago and I have been doing some research and I am just now wondering what kinds of maintenance I should be doing at this stage of its life. It only needs a few cosmetic things. Namely the center caps are missing on a couple wheels. I have ordered them (got all four since the two remaining are a bit crusty), along with a front trim piece which looks like it fell off the lower part of the front bumper. Now for any PM stuff I have been reading about these cars seem like their drive lines are a bit temperamental. Manly it seems the transmission and transfer case. So question is should I be looking into doing any fluid changes at this point of its life? I have read pretty extensively about the service procedure. Since it seems these transmissions are considered "sealed" which is honestly stupid considering they literally have a drain and fill plug.

Seems most of you have recommended a drain and fill style way of changing out the fluid. However I was wondering can a vacuum pump be used to just suck out the old fluid, and then refill with the correct amount of new fluid? Same for the transfer case? I do also have a cylinder bore sight so I can stick it in there to somewhat inspect internals if need be or to see if all the fluid is out. Car does also have some pretty extensive service intervals going back twenty years. It was barely driven later in its life before I got it. Previous owners put only about 2-3k miles per year on it till about 40k miles when it started sitting for long periods. At that point I believe between 2015 and 2026 (When I purchased it from a dealer), only about 3500 miles where put on the car. Water pump has been replaced along with the fuel pump (service work done at a dealer service center by one of the previous owners). Only real issue I can see in the engine is the valve covers seem to be leaking a bit of oil. Which seems understandable due to its age.

In any case chime in and let me know what you think!

Hello All!

I’m new to the forum and wanted to find Jag enthusiasts who might be interested in spare parts. I am breaking a 2001 Midnight Blue Jaguar X-Type 2.5l V6 Petrol Automatic as the gearbox has packed up.
All other parts are available and i’d be happy to sell them to you guys to keep your own beauties in good working order. The car is a beauty with only 76004 miles on the clock. Pristine and happy to show her off if you need anything. Feel free to drop me a message or call if I can be of help.

My car was running great until yesterday . I was doing a 600KM highway trip from Melbourne to Canberra and I topped up from half a tank of 95 at Albury APCO. After that the car would hesitate under light acceleration. The weird thing was cruising was fine and If I planted the foot acceleration was fine as well - it was just light acceleration where the jerking was. I suspect a clogged injector. I thought maybe the fuel was mistakenly the lower grade so after having just over a quarter of a tank left I filled up with 98. The jerking improved slightly but was still there. I am going to run down to a quarter of a tank again and this time I am going to try injector cleaner fluid. Sound like a plan?

Had to dismantle the rear fittings to extract the CD, SATNAV setup corrosion had broken the SATNAV player
recovered from that
SO went to close the bonnet, hear the safety latch catch, but does not click, move any further

Advice on if I need to adjust the striker plate - as I had removed that at some point way back and just bolted back together.

TIA

My Blue V6 Petrol 2.5L has been stored in an open space over winter and I have been resolving issues to get it back on the road

Todays issue, but not just today is that the Driver door Lock (RHD) has decided to fail - I was looking to understand why the internal handle pull failed to open the door, outside handle worked, fob is not configured - another issue, yes I know the process its just not working, anyway pulled door apart and in trying various opening combinations with the door open (phew, was nearly going to close the door) I tripped the latch closed and nothing would move it open, none of the mechanical or electronic means. Luckily I have another X Type, 3 years younger so extracted the lock from that.
To remove the latch/actuator you need to move the security shield and finally fought it into a position that allowed extracting the lock.

Reinstalled the lock, with some fiddling, pushing and some cursing then I tried to move the security shield back, not very successful just budged a bit. No problem I thought I can leave that....

Time to move the car to a new patch, pushed the button to open the drivers window, and crunch, window goes into a do I go up or go down dance, turn off power quickly and realise the shiled is now in the path of the glass.

How do I either remove the :icon_rant: thing or get it back up to its original position

All comments welcome

TIA

The shift knob coating has been cracked and dull for many years. Today a couple of big pieces of the plastic coating flaked off. I know there are really nice ones in a hundred flavors available on eBay, Amazon, etsy, etc. I am wondering if anyone has restored the original or has insights on how to do so. I can definitely peel off most of the old plastic coating but I'm not sure what I will find. Is it real wood underneath there? Can I use a bunch of layers of polyurethane to get an original looking knob? What about dipping in a clear epoxy? Appreciate any tips.
