The fibre optics on my series 2, only lights the aircon temp controller, all the rest such as the ventilation fan selector, light and ignition switches are not functional. Instead of hunting for parts and trying to fix it I would like to replace all positions with good old light bulbs and fittings.

Has anyone done this and are there any standard kits or fitments that are available.

Thanks

I have one of those Series III XJ6 cars that requires I put the gear selector in Reverse and then turn the ignition to start for a few seconds to "prime" the ECU/fuel system before I put it back to Park to start it. After doing so, the engine starts with a lot less cranks.

I was recently reading about the common grounding point for the fuel system at the back of the water rail on the right side of the engine.
and was wondering if it made any sense to connect this bolt directly to the negative terminal of the battery via a long ground strap rather than relying on the grounding path through the engine block to the chassis and back to the battery. Could there be any downside to doing this?

Is there another known fix for reducing cranking time other than the gear selector trick?

So my 1977 V12 XJC has what appears to be a brake assistance problem. Once in a while, especially at the start of a trip, the brakes don't appear to react well, and a second 'shove' of the pedal is needed. After that it's fine for a while but may recur. I've checked all the rubber hoses to the servo and the vacuum reservoir are in good shape and replaced any that looked in the least bit tired. I have vacuum pump with guage if anyone knows what else I should be checking or what other factor might be causing the poor response.

Blessed Sunday, dear Jaguar and Daimler enthusiasts!

Can any forum member point me to examples of wooden cabinets positioned between the front seats in Daimler or Jaguar Series cars, for use by rear passengers?

Both refrigerated or goblet & decanter only solutions are interesting.

Under the carpet of my Daimler Double Six I found the original wiring but I don't have photographs of the original cabinet that we had. I only remember that it impeded front seat reclining and was, therefore, modified to non refrigerated.

Halfords in the UK now offers a very compact refrigerated unit which could be covered with wood veneer and solve the space concern, I imagine.

Before buying one to test if it fits and can be veneered, it would help if any member who has seen similar bespoke cabinets share images or thoughts.

Hello! I’ve recently purchased and got running a 1984 Jaguar XJ6. It’s the American model with the 4.2L inline 6 cylinder engine, 3 speed transmission.

The car sat for some time and because of that the engine leaks oil. The driver side fuel tank also seems to be leaking at over half a tank of gasoline. So those are the two huge issues I’m currently focused on fixing. So currently I’d like to build a list of parts I need so I can replace them. Going onto YouTube I’m able to find some general info on removing the bumper to get to the fuel tanks, but I’m left confused on whether or not my car has internal fuel pumps (or the external in the trunk), does my car have a fuel sediment bowl (the YouTube vid I watched was on a 70 something xj6 and so I am aware that mine could be different, etc). So yeah, any help would be appreciated. I’d love to restore this thing.

Hi everyone, I’m looking to see if anyone has oscilloscope reference waveforms for the ignition components, AFM and fuel injectors for SIII, 4.2 liter.
I may need to upgrade to a 2 channel PICO scope since my Snap on Vantage Pro may not have enough definition to identify the problem part or parts
I’m dealing with a slight misfire and want to avoid randomly replacing parts if possible.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the inner and outer tapered bearings and their races? Not the Jaguar part numbers, but the generic ie. Timken numbers etched into the actual bearings/races. I understand that bearing such as these all carry the same numbers, regardless of the actual manufacturer. I'm also looking for similar info for the inner and outer needle bearings for the lower wishbone (fulcrum) arms. I plan to pick these up from my local bearing supply shop. Ian

Hi all
Its the season in doing alot of work on my 86 xj
During my adventures i realized the driver side footwell was getting quite wet.
I sort of knew immediatly this was due to some small rust formation around my windshield
Sadly on further inspection the leak is happening both driver side and passenger side and on both sides in the rearview.
I was already planning on replacing the seals and repainting the car this summer so that has just pushed that project along.
Ive gone ahead and ordered the seals from moss motors so they should be here soon but i have a few questions reguarding it all.

Firstly how different is replacing these seals on a series 3 as opposed to a series 2 i ask because “living with a classic” on youtube has a great in depth video on the process but he does it on a series 2.

Secondly how much rust warrants a welding repair. I have never welded and with a delicate area such as this i dont feel inclined to let this be where i start trying to (although i am interested) i know i will not know the extent of the damage until i remove the screen but from what i can tell from the outside it seems to be mostly surface rust there are a few small rust bubbles on the back and front so i know there will be at the very least minor divots in the metal. Is this something i can simply sand as flush as possible repaint and reseal? Or does any amount of rust require a welding repair.

Im fairly confident in my ability to replace the seals on my own (hell if i can drop and repair the IRS at home how hard could this be…right?) although ive read a few threads that strongly reccomend having a shop do it to ensure proper seating. I am weary of this option though as nearly every shop ive taken this car to (even for minor issues) has misdiagnosed, further damaged, and over charged for anything they do in reguards to this car (hence why ive taken on nearly all of the repairs for the duration ive owned this car)

Lastly ive read that water behind these seals is inevitable due to their design, on a few threads people reccomend regularly using “rust check” to flush out and displace any water behind the seals and protect the metal. Is there any kind of sealant i could use whilst installing the seals to prevent this from occuring in the future or is that a fools errand. On the note of sealants is there any sealant required whilst installing these seals? and if so what kind?

Thanks all
Best wishes
