Lower Steering Column Shaft Locked/Collapsed on Jaguar XE (2015) After Removal

*Problem Description:*While removing the intermediate shaft (the telescopic part connecting the column to the steering rack), the lower shaft of the steering column "slid" deep into the main housing...

Problem Description:
While removing the intermediate shaft (the telescopic part connecting the column to the steering rack), the lower shaft of the steering column "slid" deep into the main housing and is now stuck in a collapsed position.

Current Symptoms:

Limited Travel: The shaft moves freely about 3 cm (1.18 inches) in and out, but then hits a hard stop.

Mechanical Obstruction: When pulled outward, it hits a solid internal limit with a dull, plastic-on-metal sound.

Column Type: Manual adjustment (NOT electric/motorized reach adjustment).

Initial State: The steering was electronically locked (ESCL active) when the battery was disconnected during removal.

Request for Expert Advice:
Is there a specific "release sequence" or a hidden access hole to reset the collapsible mechanism on this specific Jaguar/Land Rover part number (e.g., GX73-3C529-DE)? Does the internal plastic cartridge require replacement once collapsed, or is it resettable with enough force?

Because the shaft is stuck in the collapsed/retracted position, I cannot reconnect the intermediate telescopic shaft. The exposed portion of the column shaft is too short for the U-joint to reach it and be secured with the pinch bolt. Effectively, the shaft is "shortened" by several centimeters compared to its normal ope

Hello 2017 XE here,
A bit of history.. My 10'' Incontrol entertainment system was originally without Smartphone pack, so no Android Auto and no SOTA.
Years later, it was upgraded by a dealer to receive SOTA, and is now up to date.

Since that dealer intervention, am/fm radio is stuck, i guess to the channel it was on when upgraded. I realized much later since i rarely listen to radio, so it was too late to complain with the dealer.
Basically it's impossible to change frequency, use favorites or change AM/FM. FM 104.80 forever. Never found any reference of this issue online. Obviously i tried to factory reset it to no avail.

Recently i took the courage and enabled Android Auto with CCF mod (which works fine btw) and hoped that by Learn Incontrol Variant function it could fix this issue. It didnt.

Anybody has an idea on how this could be fixed?

Thanks!

I replaced the timing chains on my 2017 Jaguar XE with Ford Ecoboost gtdi 2.0L Turbo Petrol. I try to start it but it only cranks and does not fire. I have the SDD and the only fault is it can't communicate with the Park Assist Module (PAM). However, my gear selector will not rise from the parked down position, and the steering wheel will not lock. It remains free to turn no matter how long the car is off.

I had the battery tested and it passes the cold crank test at Auto zone and its less than a year old. The voltage is at 13.1v and I have had a battery charger on it and had it jumped to another running vehicle while I have been troubleshooting.

I have tried changing the GSM and ran the new GSM procedure in the SDD.

The tench digit in the VIN is an H which corresponds to SDD and not pathfinder.

AI has the PAM module in the right hand side of trunk, left hand side of trunk, and in the foot well on the drivers side of the car. I have not been able to find it, to try and unplug from the CAN to test if it is faulting out the CAN.

It also has a red triangle warning whith exclamation point when ignition switch is on.

The only DTC codes are the permanent codes from the timing issues that it had before I replaced the chains. Cam position (2 times), Crank position, High Fuel Pressure regulator past learning limits (Cam sensors, Crank sensors , VVT solenoids, and high pressure fuel regulator have all been replaced)

Any ideas?

yesterday when pulling car into garage, got the SOS failure alert in the message center and flashing SOS/service indicators. Same today when pulling out of garage. Had this issue a few months back and replaced the telematics battery and system has been working like a champ until yesterday.

Tonight, I went to pull XE in the garage, push the start button, all lights/indicators come on as normal but immediately extinguish and no start. Checked battery voltage and 12.2 V on 3 year old AGM battery (date code 5/23). Was able to jump start and let run for about 10 min. Pulled into garage, started and stopped a few times with no issues. Suspect battery may be going but concerned as have seen others with telematics issues and car becomes an anchor.

Plan on taking it to Advance in the AM for battery/charging system check but for those who have had the telematics fault turn your car into an anchor - what were your indications and were you able to jump start initially?
