Coolant loss during break in

Hi guys and gals,

in my first 650 miles in my 35t, the coolant level has steadily dropped about 3/4”, basically from maximum to minimum level in the expansion tank. No obvious leaks (including the known trouble spots such as the heater core connection near the firewall) or sweet smells,....At this rate i’ll be topping up coolant approx 1/2” every month (I average 600 miles a month)...

Thanks in advance for your insights!

We experienced the same with our S trim. It dropped significantly below minimum mark cold engine at around 6,000 miles. We stopped by the dealership, they filled it back to normal, then it dropped back minimum hot engine and has stayed there for 8,000 miles. Occassionally, I think I smell coolant but it's not consistent.

We will take it in for first service next month and I'll ask them to check the hoses and pump then.

John

Thanks John, much appreciated. What I’ve done recently is turn the heater on full blast for while, not something we usually do here in the sunny Caribbean, to hopefully flush out some airpockets that may have formed in the heater core. So far, the coolant consumption seems to have stabilized, fingers crossed ....
