Cx17

2015 Jaguar SUV...... Drooling :p

JagV8 03-26-2014 02:54 AM

Man that's ugly.

Jon89 03-26-2014 07:48 AM

I don't find it ugly, but if I needed an SUV I would stick with a Jeep or a Subaru....

>if I needed an SUV I would stick with a Jeep or a Subaru....

Why, since I'm sure it's a Land/Range Rover under the skin. Expensive stuff, true, but the L/R Rover folks know how to build an SUV.

The real question is since Tata has L/R Rover why dilute the combined brand with another vehicle? It would seem to make more sense for them to coordinate brands and have both cross-selling the other (i.e., Jaguar guy wants an SUV and Jaguar dealer "facilitates" sale of L/R Rover; L/R Rover owner wants a summer car for the beach house and L/R Rover dealer "facilitates" the purchase of an F-Type).

The JAGUAR SUV doesn't appeal to me but I'm looking forward to the release of the LAND ROVER Coupe to replace the XK.

It's design to compete with the Lamborghini and maserati SUV. I thinks it's pretty neat but not functional. Land rover doesn't have anything to worry about because they are more family oriented. The cost in US dollars is 49000 or £30000 from what I have read and it's for the 20-30 yr old niches. I love the futuristic electronics and lighting. I am sure they will change things as it's hits production and gets feedback from the car shows. It's a crossover but I don't think anyone in their right mind would take any of those that I mention and take them off-roading like you would a land rover that has proven itself in many countries

C'mon Graham, I made that joke months ago! :icon_lol:

It's pretty obvious who the target demographic for the CX17 is; my wife (who just got a Freelander 2) saw the CX-17 in a Jaguar magazine & announced, without prompting "wow that's cool, i'd drive that"

I tried very hard to get her into a Range Rover or a Land Rover, but it wasn't easy, and there were some very convincing arguments from her.

Defender - Are you crazy? I'm not a farmer!
Full Fat Range Rover - It's too big!
Range Rover Sport - It's too big!
Range Rover Evoque - Ugly, looks like a Stormtrooper helmet, wasn't it designed by Victoria Beckham?
Discovery - Way too big and damn ugly, looks like a box!
Freelander 2 - I like it, it's not so big & ugly like the others.

And then the CX-17 - It's a Jag, oh wow, I like it.

The X-Type Sportwagon & XF Sportbrake weren't/aren't sold in Australia (long story) but in any case the answer is "no way am I driving a station wagon"

So there you have it, the CX-17 is the car that women want when they don't want an Evoque.

I kind of get the Stormtrooper helmet bit...

But they also remind me of Marvin the Paranoid Android

But getting back on topic, the CX-17 will sell, just not to the traditional Jag customers....

The same body style is out there right now from Nissan to Ford.....most drivers of these crossovers are women or what is called the CEO moms, those that make home decisions from shopping to finances.

Regardless if you like it or not, it's going to sell, and the amenities and futuristic look is a breath of fresh air, when the s type came out, I heard things like it's to stuffy and fake looking plastic interior on the earlier models, it looks like a ford interior. The status quo throughout the world demands SUVs or crossovers. Wonder if they will make a jaguar mini van lol.....

It's a smart move for Jaguar and I'm sure that it will be a great success. I quite like it but (as with all modern cars) I like it less than I like older vehicles

John Fox 06-16-2014 08:15 AM

I think I will like the production model better since this is a dressed up show piece. That being said the wife loves the look of it and given Im looking for my next Jag (car for me) so she can transition into my Range Rover I think she will like it even more given the RR is a full size HSE. Plus knowing her (very frugal Asian) the gas mileage will be the selling factor. In the end whatever I have to do to keep her from a Benz I will ( I don't agree they are the greatest vehicles ever made), LOL. Thankfully I have some time and she wont want a new one, LOL, hates that first year depreciation.

What is the US release date? Any news on this?

Dino V 11-17-2014 10:13 AM

Not bad, definitely think this car has potential.
