F-Pace for Family?
Hello Jaguar friends! I'm considering a 2019 F-Pace but I really need to know if it has enough room for a family with two young kids (two car seats). I bought a BMW X1 last year without testing my car seats (I know, I'm a dummy) and it's way too tight. They fit, but no one fits in the middle and I have to sit really close to the wheel. Both car seats are forward facing and slim (Dionos).
What I want to do is go to a dealership and test my car seats but with COVID-19, that's not possible right now. Any owners with two car seats that can share their experience? I don't need a ton of space but I want to be comfortable and possibly have enough room to fit someone in the middle. |

Hello Katharina, welcome to the forum. The F-Pace has an interior width on the rear seat of 1440mm. The X1 has 1465mm . So presumably you loose 25mm .... But a test resulted in this : https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...b08fec6e20.jpg More context on the F-Pace : https://www.cars.com/articles/2017-j...1420688852817/ But I wonder where you went wrong, since in the X1 also 3 seats fit : https://babydrive.com.au/best-family...ndly-features/ If any 'wider' person has to sit in between these two seats you need a wider car, or a third row. The last is for example this type, the Discovery Sport [ [url]https://build.landrover/AE1E0641 ]. You could consider changing the carseats : how old are your children and how much more will they fit in these seats ? Or do some reading : https://www.cars.com/news/car-seat-check/ Maybe you could call someone at a local daycare and ask if they know of a make/model that allows for two carseats and a 'wider' person in between. Many types of vans would be suitable. Good luck, Dan |
Thanks, Dan! I had one wider car seat up until now that was rear facing, so that didn't help. It's really more the leg room/space between the front and back seat that's the issue in the X1. But I probably need to be patient and wait until we're back to normal and really take the car seats on a test drive.
Not really a van person ;) |
Hi Katharina,
I edited the text before you replied.. We have 3 kids, now 25/23/19... When they were younger and only one needed a booster seat still, we bough another car. I carefully considered they would grow taller and needed enough head and legroom... But what I forgot : teenagers get wider too , that goes 3 times faster and with all three ! So very soon we needed to change again. We bought a Land Rover Discovery 3 [ LR 3 in the US ]. The present day equivalent is the Land Rover Discovery 5. It is huge and matches a van in volume. But the driving is nearest to the Range Rover : a secret tip from my dealer is that if you want Range Rover driving at a more affordable price, by the D5... .. have a look and a testdrive : https://www.landroverusa.com/vehicle...ery/index.html |
That was super helpful, Dan. Thank you! My kids are 2 and 4, so they'll be in booster seats for a while. No teenagers getting wider yet :) Is the legroom metric a good one to compare how much room there would be between rear and front seat?

The other selling point for us was the large boot space. A very comfortable & capable SUV to drive, am getting around 10.5L/100kms out of the 3.0 Supercharged motor, so not too dissimilar to our previous 3.8L Supercharged Holden Calais. The only (minor) aversion I have is the hard plastics on doors, dash etc, and the rotary gear select could be better, but I think that has been changed to a conventional lever now. I dont think you'd regret buying one, a bit more unique than Beemers too!! |
Hi Katharina,
I looked the measurements up. Space between front/rear is 65mm more in the F-Pace.. But do go and have a think about the Land Rover D5 ; the space inside is increadable... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...4454e64d3f.jpg |
