Love the fact that there is already a tune that is great, easy to use with the handheld, no need to send in your ECU, and it disables the auto start/stop system, that will be my first mod once I get an F- Pace. Only have access to 91 octane so that sucks, but even 400+ vs 340 is still worth it. I have a 2013 RDX and no tune is available 🙄

Now that the E-Pace is out, are you going to work on a tune for the 2.0L turbo engine?

 

We've not refused to do the 2.0L tunes yet, we're trying to get a solution for the newer vehicles. Older 2.0L used a different PCM, and when I say older I mean early LR Evoque(which isn't that old), then the newer models on Jag and LR switched the PCM to a similar model with different chip...making the tools useless until adapted. We make our own files but do not have the ability to make the tools at the moment.

What this all means is the tool company's are having issues separating the different models per market, which adds in issues on top of the tuning.

Some tool companies that we presently don't deal which claim to have a solution but it's a bench flash program, meaning your car needs the ecu taken out and shipped. Our tool company claimed the same status of being able to program something like the newer 2017 2.0L Disco Sport + Evoque, we checked into this and found it to be wrong. So right now it's more of a tool issue versus the ability of us being able to make a tuning file for the 2.0L JLR models, our backs are kind of up against the wall on this one.

Trust me, we're extremely impatient to get the ball rolling on the 2.0L field, once the tool issue is resolved, this 2.0L project will be our 1st thing on the "to-do" list.

I do apologize and wish I had better new, but that the blunt honest truth of the current 2.0L situation.

 

How hard is ECU tuning by using VelocityAP ECU tuning handheld device? As a first time user (zero experience ) how long would it take?
Do I take it to a shop or I can get it done in my garage following the instructions?
Does ECU waive the factory warrenty at all?

It's very easy, it takes 5 minutes. You first download your stock file, email it to them, and they send you a modified file to upload to your vehicle. Read the instructions and do it yourself, I wouldn't trust anybody with this.

If you need to take it to the dealership you must flash it back to stock. If the dealership flashes an updated over the modified file it will damage the ECU.

When you flash back to stock it leaves a file on the system. The only thing this files says is "ECM update needed" or something like that. No specific data. VelocityAP has been doing this for years with different Jaguar vehicles with no issues.

A battery tender is recommended when you are flashing or downloading files.

 

Just curious, if the dealership updates the ECU, do you resend that data back to Velocity AP and they resend you a new file to bring your car back to it's powerful life?

 

Yes, but you need to have the stock file flashed back to the ecu before the dealer visit. This will “unlock” your unit to do a new read.

When you get the car back after the dealer, just attempt to flash back the file. It the VTech unit completes then no update was done via dealer. If the VTech stops the flash with an error msg indicating the pcm no longer has the same stock software, that’s when you need to do a new read and send it our way for editing..we do this free of charge.

Will you be installing the pulley yourself? If so, can you document it? I want to see how much work it would be to switch back to stock if I have to take it to the dealership. Most pulleys are easy to install so I'm hoping it's an easy job.

what about warranty? what did the dealer say ?

 

would the dealer find out of the ECU was modified? when you get the cars back do you have to reload 380hp version then 410HP+ version or you can just go to 410HP+ version assuming dealer never flash the ECU

 

Nope the dealer will only see a stock file. That is, of course, if you flashed back to stock, before getting the car serviced. No alarm bells or red flags. Once you get it back from the dealer you flash your VAP file back, easy peasy.

 

I heard elsewhere even if you flash back to stock they still know it been flash...
