Ammonite Grey?

I wonder if this is already the new colour Ammonite Grey.
Or is it still Lunar Grey like in here: What do you think? Jaguar seems to mess it up it themselves, because attached picture on their website has a tag "Ammonite Grey" but when I save the file it says "Lunar Grey".. Or are these two colours almost identical? Does somebody know the difference? Confusing, dealer can't help... Trying to pick the colour for a new Coupe, shortlist: Stratus (MY15), Polaris, Ammonite/Lunar, .. :icon_nut: |
Impossible to tell from photos, and those aren't very clear. However, it's not unusual for a manufacturer to slightly tweak various colors and rename them. There may be only a slight difference.

If (big if) the online configurator can be trusted, Ammonite looks slightly darker than Lunar and maybe less 'warm'.
Lunar on the left (top), Ammonite on the right (bottom). Clearly there is some difference, or they wouldn't have changed it in the configurator... Attachment 156100 Attachment 156101 |
Thanks, mshedden, that's a nice comparison!

Maybe it's my screen, but I don't recall Lunar having those bronze tones.

great side by side comparison but really hard to tell if your monitor is not calibrated. those colors don't look grey to me at all!!!

The web configurator has almost no color fidelity...it does a shockingly poor job of rendering the paint. So I certainly wouldn't trust it to differentiate Ammonite from Lunar.
Jaguar could definitely do a better job... There are a lot of great ways to convey color, texture and tone these days as this demo video from Disney Research shows.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt4DW8bX_CU |

Not only do I agree - and have stated numerous times that NO depiction does the F-Type much if any justice - but when I checked out the configuration for my Stratus Gray it did an horridous job of depicting what is otherwise an exciting, and classy - if understated - color. |

Well, the vert configurator looks more 'reasonable' for Lunar and Ammonite.
I have to wonder if the 'sunset' or 'late afternoon low sun' light source for the coupe configurator caused the coupe car image to be rendered with a warm tint? Don't know, but these vert images clearly are rendered with some input from the virtual light source, in this case artificial interior lighting on the Lunar vs natural outside daylight on the ammonite(?) Have to admit, I love that bronze grey look, even if it isn't real.

I don't like it. It reminds me of the Porsche Agate Gray.
Personally I prefer Lunar. I love Lunar. |

My lunar grey XF definitely had a brown/bronze hue to it in the sun. It does not look like it so much in these pictures taken indoors and with flash.

I have 3 more days to pick and lock down my '16 R color and I'm currently torn between:
* Glacier White Metallic with Jet/Redzone Duotone (still guessing at the true look of this exterior, despite the internet pics on Jag website, Project 7 promo pics, and random other Google images); and * Ammonite Grey Metallic with Jet/Ivory Duotone or Jet/Redzone Duotone (and again, I still don't have a clear idea what color this is in the flesh -- darker than Lunar(?) -- but hoping for more darkness, shade, and pop to this paint than Lunar currently offers. * Black Pack. * Black Gyrodone Wheels. Here's a view links to what Ammonite looks like on the XE: Jaguar XE in Detroit - Jaguar XE Forum http://www.spireautomotive.com/pdf/xe-brochure.pdf (pp. 22, 28) |

The duotone interiors (especially the red-zone) look patchy to me - not well thought out because the panels which are colored do not cover a full plane. In addition when you are sitting on the seat you cover up the color and all you see is black. |
+1 on the solid red interior. That's the one thing I wish I had, as it looks stunning. It would be perfect on grey or white.

Unfortunately, the only solid red interior I've seen was on a Salsa Red car at the dealer. Looked horrible IMO. (I could have bought that one instead of waiting another month+ for mine. No thanks!)
