Battery low

I have a 2012 jaguar xf. It started up for me. I pulled out of the garage but when I went back to turn it on it wouldn't start up. It says low battery. It's been on the cables for 30+ minutes. This is the second time in 1 week that it has done this. The battery is only a little over a year old. I only drive it like 2-3 times a month. What can it be?

It is obvious: your battery never reaches full charge. Driving it 3 times a month, (and possibly for short distances) will not keep the battery charged. When the battery was installed it almost certainly was NOT fully charged (they rarely are). The message that comes up on your car is a cry for help, and the solution is easy.

suggestion: buy a CTEK battery maintainer and let it slowly charged the battery…it may take more than 24 hours to reach full charge, assuming that the battery is still good.

How far do you drive it 2-3 times a month? You'll need to drive for quite a while to put back into the battery what you take out of it when starting, and if you don't drive enough to top it right up you're bound to run out of electrons before too long. Best bet is to get a battery maintainer (CTEK or similar) to keep it topped up during the time it's unused. And 30 minutes isn't long to get a good charge into a battery (depending on the charger, obviously).

Battery low warning

I had the battery tested and it said the battery was fully charged. I'm only getting one click. Could it possibly be the starter? I'm a new owner of Jaguar, so I do appreciate the inputs.

Next thing to check is that the light in the hazard switch goes out after a few minutes following locking the car. Failure to go out indicates the car hasn't gone to sleep and there's likely a module draining the battery. That happened to me a few years back and InControl called me to say the car had reported a flat battery(!). I got that sorted just by recharging the battery and it's been fine ever since.

This question would probably be better asked in the XF forum. If it were an F-Type, I'd look to the ODBII glitch. I have no idea if the XF shares that same curiosity.

From some of the videos that I've seen it looks like this may be cause from not driving it, according to the video, you should try and drive it at least 20 minutes a week so the alternator can keep the battery charged. Lots of electronics for the battery to keep charged over time.

From what I've read, 20 minutes is about what's needed to replace the charge you took out when starting the car.

I have a 2010 XF and over the years have gone a month or more not driving it. Always starts up first time. Yours won't have the OBD drain issue of the f type. So it's either a weak battery (they can test 'ok' but still be weak), it's not charged (give it 24 hours on a trickle charger) or some parasitic draw which a good auto electrician can easily test for

I'd start there. Any aftermarket electronics - radar detector, dash cam, secondary alarm, tracker device? Anything plugged into the aux power ports or piggy backed into wiring / fuse box?
