Can't get the wheel straight!
 

Put on new Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my 2015 F-Type R coupe. These tires have transformed the car. Much better controlled and traction is improved.

But here is the problem. I had my dealer do a 4 wheel alignment at the same time. Even if the car tracks straight down the road, the steering wheel is about 3 degrees to the left. I have had the dealer address it 4 times, and they can't get it right. It's driving me absolutely crazy.

The last time they looked at it, I told them that the adjustment needed is to the tie rods...they say they did it...not much improvement if at all.

I'm so frustrated. Has anyone had this problem? Anybody know the fix?

If you're in NJ, please let me know who can fix it and what the fix is.....

I always understood that once the alignment was done, the steering wheel could be re-centered .. for instance somewhere along the steering shaft. No doubt someone technical on the forum will be able to clarify.

A decent alignment shop shouldn't have any difficulty with this. With every other car I've had with rack and pinion steering it's a matter of shortening one tie rod and lengthening the other. Unless the electric power steering adds some voodoo I don't see why they can't get it right. The factory manages somehow.

When I got my Miata I told them the kind of alignment I wanted and that the steering wheel wasn't centered. When I picked the car up it was perfect. They didn't charge extra either. It was just something they needed to know when they did the work.

Here's your problem. What's a dealer know about aligning the wheels properly? Take it to a good performance tire/wheel shop. As mentioned, all the adjustment needs to be done at the tie-rods. There aren't enough splines on the steering shaft to allow the adjustment to be made accurately enough at the steering wheel.

Time to Name and Shame. The JLR Call Centre* may also have something useful to say.

I had this issue on my F-Type too. One thing that helped was swapping the left and right front wheels. This reduced but didn't eliminate. Then I had the alignment guy set the wheel 5 degrees to the right, and then when driving it the wheel was straight and car tracked straight. Very odd issue. One of the many things that led me to ditch the Jag for a Porsche.

There is no way this is an F-Type issue. It has to be a service issue. The car was fine from the factory. So frustrating.

I agree with Unhinged. Don't have a dealer work on things like alignments. Find alignment pros in your area via Yelp, etc.

yeah I understand the frustration it's an expensive car you paid good money to be driving it and the steering wheel won't even be on center.. I see a few other people mentioned to take it to another performance shop. But personally I wouldn't spend extra money like that for no good reason If i were you I'd talk to the service manager explain to him that you really need the issue fixed and see if there's another jaguar service center that can take on the task. I can't imagine that no one over there can figure this out.

That's the right answer if it's still under warranty. Otherwise, if you have to pay for it anyway, take it to an alignment specialist.
