ceramic brake retrofit

Has anyone looked into this? I was unable to find a MY15 R coupe with them on the lot when I purchased the car, and while I don't have buyer's remorse, every once in a while I wonder if this is an option down the road.

There's no reason why it shouldn't be a simple swap if you are willing to write a big check for parts, labor, and new wheels that will accommodate them. For warranty reasons, it would be safer to have a JLR dealer do it.

The swap might not be as trivial as swapping rotors, calipers and wheels. It may also involve the master cylinder and brake control module to match it all with the TVB. Don't know for certain, but it would be a concern.

I thought I saw the upgrade as a kit on the Accessories on-line catalog, so it's probably just a (very expensive) swap at the corners.

I think the separate emergency brake calipers may also be an issue.

I don't see them in either the online catalog or the hard copy version. However, with Jag's reputation for keeping neither properly updated, there's no strong indication the upgrade kit doesn't exist.

There are some "brake upgrade kit's" in the catalog but not for the Carbon Ceramics.

Attachment 122546

The Carbon Ceramics are referred to as a 20" brake kit in the catalog, so it's not one of the ones listed above.

All the parts for the Carbon Ceramics are available to buy if you wanted to make the conversion, but I think it'll be more expensive to buy it all in parts than it would have been to option it on a new car.

I priced up the bits from the XKR-S GT a year or so ago, just a set of four rotors and pads were around $13k at retail prices. Then add the cost of the four main calipers around $5k, plus all the little bits and pieces needed (dust shields, bolts, hoses, and the handbrake parts) easy $25k in parts, without taxes...

And then you've gotta fit them...

The master cylinder is the same for all the different brake options (there are changes by model year though).

For whatever reason the wheel speed sensors on the rear axles are different with the CCB kit.

ABS modulator / module is the same for all as well. If there's a programming difference, it's not a big deal.

Cambo,
Is there any way us mere mortals can gain access to the parts catalog(s) for the F-Types? I'm working on a couple projects that are dragging due to lack of info.

ipitythefoo 12-06-2015 11:02 PM

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I agree, this sounds like quite a project. Aside from the annoying brake dust, I am happy with the current braking performance, and should just order my next car (who knows, maybe another F type) exactly the way I want it.

If you don't ask, you'll never find out.

To put that into a "down to earth" perspective, I only paid the equivalent of £4000 for this 1 previous owner, 4 X 4 truck, in great condition, which I use for all kinds of things on my "farm."

Yup. But, as we've previously established, this is an area in which even "Man Maths" seems logical.

Are you certain the Super Performance brake master and brake control module will work properly with these parts?

F-typical 12-15-2015 04:57 AM

You'll have to ask Cambo. :)
