Coding - are there secret features that can be turned on?
Hello,
I searched and didn't find a thread so appreciate some intel.
I am about to bite the bullet and buy a fancy $1500 Autel that can do bi-directional work on multiple platforms. I am forced to buy it to do some troubleshooting on my W463 but curious if I can also leverage it to code-in features on the Jag.
1. I know Euro cars have the option to put the spoiler up at any time, can that be coded in to US cars?
2. Default startup to dynamic possible?
3. Default Track DSC on every startup possible?
4. My car is a 2016 so I dont think any of the European trickery on adaptive headlights are an option for me. Correct?
5. I assume transmission adaptation reset is a no-brainer, correct? Car has 60k miles and I just got it.
6. Any other useful features that folks would suggest?
Thanks much.

In my limited experience in trying to recently ascertain what different scan tools can or cannot do for something I was interested in, I found it near impossible to get definitive answers…Even from the scan tool vendors themselves…
I recently bought a Top Don looking for it to do a specific function. I even had the vendor confirm that it would do it, only to find out that it would not. Very frustrating.
That said, perhaps someone will come along here and be able to give you answers for one or more of these. Hope so for you.
Cheers

I have never seen anyone mention secret features that can be turned on. However I have seen that you can turn things on with the correct software like dual zone climate if you don't already have that.
I do some of that via my smart top. It allows me to change not only features on how the top works, but turn off the stop/start, remember what mode hte exahust was in last and others. It does this by telling the car what it needs to do shortly after startup.
Yes, as you pointed out SmartTop works a little bit differently. It doesn't change the car behavior--it just does the work for you. Immediately after startup, it does the 'button presses' for you to have those switches in the states you prefer.
It does more than that. For example I can change the speed at which I am allowed to raise and lower the top. I also used it to invert the top controls, raise and lower the windos and top remotely, etc, but yes, for the most part, it's a glorified button presser.
Yes, and the one-touch open and close roof, even from the remote, is how the car should have come from the factory. But lawyers ruin everything.

ha thanks. I am a universal car lover, love all genres. Have two 90s Japanese turbos, hence this username. Have two british, german, american....
If anyone knows what codes or settings to change to turn on dual climate control I’d love to hear it. I know someone who has the software/hardware to access the file, but I’m reluctant to experiment.
When I got my 2017 in 2020, I spent some time exploring the car and its settings and controls. I had noticed that Fs had blue lighting in the doors and under the center grabhandle. Whe I looked, the LED strips were there but no lights came on. Somewhere in the forum I saw something about "enabling " a module. At the time , my JlR tech hadn't seen or heard of anything like this. But, with the "enabling" clue, he figured out where he needed to go to get those lights on. So, yeah, I think there are things. And isn't there someway somewhere that you can fake the engine out to give more HP than what you paid for?

You can then turn on a number of factory options which may or may not have come standard with your particular car.
I don't know for sure which such options can or cannot be turned on this way, all I know for sure as it was done on my car is to turn on iDynamic.
But you need someone (such as a JLR specialist) with all the right SDD equipment and know-how, apparently a novice fumbling around with it can easily brick one or more modules including the ECU.
No JLR dealership will do this they are blocked from doing so.
Back to your specifics:
1. Pretty sure this has been tried with zero success. I know it wasn't possible on my car and that is a ROW (Rest Of World) car.
2. I don't think this is possible.
3. Again I don't think this is possible.
4. Agreed (i.e. not possible).
5. Pretty sure a simple battery disconnect and reconnect (but leave disconnected for at least 20 minutes) will reset this such that it will start from scratch and you "teach" it to change as you want.
6. iDynamic and maybe dual zone HVAC are the only ones I can think of for now.
Don't just reset the transmission adaptations for fun. They learn in for clutch pack wear and mechanical variations, and take a long time to settle in. You will end up with poorer shifting that could accelerate wear on it by just wiping the adaptation values without replacing mechanical parts in the transmission. The workshop manual actually has notes against doing it for any reason other than a trans replacement where the TCM was not renewed.
Details on some of the functions that can be programmed if you know what you are doing and have the right software are in the thread below.
