CPO Warranty Confusion
I'm in the market for a 2016 CPO F-Type. Dealer and I agreed on a price.
After we agreed, dealer calls me and informs me they made a mistake on the initial listing. Instead of 7 yrs/100K miles warranty which the listing states, they said the CPO car comes with 5 yrs/100K miles. My offer was based on 7 yrs/100K miles CPO warranty. Therefore I pushed back, so they came back and stated it now comes with 6 yr/100K miles. At this point, I called other dealerships as well as Jaguar USA - all who confirm that 7 yrs in standard for CPO. Meanwhile the dealer calls me back and asks for $2500 extra to make it 7 yrs. At this point, I'm confused. The Jaguar website says CPO cars should come with 7 yrs warranty: https://www.jaguarusa.com/certified-preowned/index.html I feel like this may have been a tactic by the dealership to extract more $ out of the deal. Talk to Jaguar Corporate to verify that it's 7 years & then if so, inform the dealership that your "deal" is for 7 years so they should not think that they can change it after-the-fact but before signature. It's 7 years from the ORIGINAL date of purchase by the way so don't think it's 7 years from when you take possession... if that does still happen after all of this

Remember it is 7 years from original in service date!

Just because its a CPO don't skimp on the inspection. There is a game of moving needed work from prep to warranty.

I purchased a MY17 type R in July. In service date was January 17. I have warrantee until Jan 23 on my CPO. |
If it's a deliberate ploy by the dealer, it's underhand. If it's their mistake they should suck it up and honour the original deal. Either way, take control. Tell them it's the original deal or no deal. Give them a time limit to make up their mind. Alternatively, add value. Go for their deal but insist it must include 3yrs free servicing. Get it confirmed in writing. Good luck!

It is incredible I.e. unbelievable that a dealer would not know the duration of the CPO warranty. It’s a scheme, artifice, or device. Personally I refuse to do business with people or organizations so devoid of integrity as a matter of principle as well as practicality. |
I had a similar confusion on my purchase of a 2016 CPO F-type. Here's how it was explained to me by the dealer, and confirmed with Jaguar USA:
All warranties are from original service date, not date of your purchase The old version was 5 year, the new version is 6 year which can be extended to 7 year for a fee. The old version could not be extended . This is a pretty new change to the Jaguar offering, so it's not surprising some salesmen at some dealers are not yet fully educated. The language on the new graphics/literature from Jaguar is "up to 7 years, 100,000 miles". I think it's that new "up to" wording that generates confusion. The deal you're getting is the same as the deal I got, and all of that CPO warranty stuff is dictated by Jaguar, not by the dealer. They may be able to negotiate the 7th year extension price, but they cannot simply remove a year from the warranty to try and score an upcharge. All Jaguar CPO is now 6-year with an optional 7th. No matter which dealer you choose. |

I believe they CPO adds 2 years to the end of the standard warranty. There may be confusions because the 2014 came with 4-year standard warranty, maybe the 2015 and 2016 as well. Then 2017-up came with 5-year standard warranty.

My 2014 is now in its CPO warranty period. Does anyone know the differences compared to the standard warranty?

It's confusing....
The wording states:
The warranty covers the vehicle for up to 7 years / 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. What they MEAN is that it COULD be UP TO 7 years / 100K, not that it is. The standard CPO extension is 1 year, but you must have at least 2 years of coverage from the date of delivery, so if a 1 year extension gives you only 23 months of warranty the dealer must extend it to a 2 year plan. They should really do something to make the wording and the program clearer but in my experience every manufacturer's CPO program is confusing..... |

When I bought my 2016 R two months ago, the dealer advertised a 7 year warranty. The car had an "in service date" of July 2015, so my warranty runs until July 2022. He gave it to me in writing. I also have two free services left as long as they are done by July 20.

This is extremely confusing now.
I have a 15 R that I purchased in Feb 2018. Was told from the dealer I purchased from , and dealer servicing dealer, the records indicated that as of Dec.2018 the factory warranty ends , and the CPO from Jag ends Dec 2020. Either way, to me the numbers (dates) don't add up. After reading all the confusion on what is and what's not, I put a call into my servicing dealer to find the answer. The servicing dealer on my conversation when I called, said that doesn't look right. BTW the in service date when the car was originally purchased was Dec.2014 . The good thing is the dealership I have now will call and find out as he first suggested I call the dealership I purchased from. I am waiting for their conclusion first ! I will stay tuned to this broadcast and also let you know my findings. |
