Just became a recent 2014 f type owner and realized you can charge/jumpstart the car from the front hood via the (+) terminal and clip onto any metal for the ground. Has anyone tried using a battery tender to charge their car from this area or only directly to the battery in the trunk? My charger outlet is closer to the front of the car so this is easier for me to get to. thanks for any input!

I have the pigtail lead permanently connected to the charging posts under the hood, with the end/plug tucked up under the wheel arch edge of the hood in such a way that I can flip it out with my finger in 2 seconds flat. That way I don't have to even unlock the car let alone open anything to connect my battery maintainer, and it works a charm.
There is an old thread around here somewhere showing pics of what I did.

I was thinking maybe leave in under the hoode near the top of the cowl as well but might be risky during wet season.

 

Nup, never a hint of water or dampness anywhere on the lead.
No way any water can get through the hood onto the charging posts and the other end - the plug/connector - is safely tucked up between the hood and the plastic liner and has always stayed nice and dry. No cap either, the charger/cables never came with a cap to start with.

 

Could someone post the link with pictures please. I just started trying to figure out what hookup would be best for this car.

Yes, using the jump posts under the hood as I recall charges *both* batteries, the main and the aux that controls auto-stop, etc.

I use the silver post on the radiator support for ground near the positive jump tab.

And the correct earth/ground point is that spiral looking bolt sticking up near the middle of the pic about 1/4 the way up from the bottom.
It screws off then you attach the circle "eye" of the black lead to it and screw it back down again, easy as pie.
Edit - I suspect we are talking about the same bolt/post!

The only change I made after was per the last pic in that post.
Instead of tucking the connector behind the headlight (which means opening and then shutting the hood) I figured out that I could simply tuck it up under the hood, in a small gap between the hood and the plastic liner that sits in that spot. As I said before no fuss no muss that way, I can flip it out in a jiffy and connect the maintainer without even having to unlock the car let alone opening the the hood!

 

ah, my ring leads are permanently installed on my generator's startup battery so I just use the clamp leads and clamp the negative right to that spiral post.

 

Very easy to buy a couple of rings and fix them to the wires, that's what I did the first time before I found the "lost" original pigtail lead.
I didn't even solder them on, I simply stripped the wires back, folded the copper double and used clamp on rings then wrapped the joins with insulation tape.
Very much a ghetto job but it worked faultlessly.

True enough, though mine only goes on the 'tender for long term storage in the garage so I don't really mind having the hood open.
