Dynamic Mode reset - Drive by noise TSB/SSM

Hi all,

I read on, I (think it was this forum) about an 'upgrade' that was being uploaded to cars that forced the car to default to Dynamic Mode off when the engine was cycled on/off.

Not sure if it was an SSM or TSB...please can someone put me out of my misery and point me in the right direction (I have searched at great length, but possibly using the wrong Search string)...or am I going mad?!

Thanks...Tel

I can tell you that in my new 2020, Dynamic is turned off every time you cycle the engine.

In my 2016, if you had the car in Dynamic mode when you shut it down, it will start up in Dynamic mode.
I believe this will default back to standard after a set amount of time, however.

Yep, you are both absolutely correct...Newer post 19's I think have the reset done at ignition cycle for "Drive by noise emissions'' or some BS like that!

I'm sure I read on these forums that earlier cars, 14, 15, 16's etc would be flashed when in for service so that the default setting is as the newer cars, i.e when you switch the ignition off when in dynamic, the car will restart defaulting back to normal mode.

I'm after the SSM/TSB notes/number so that I can avoid having this flashed at my next service...even though I do have a lockable cover on my OBD port!

OK, found it over on the UK forum eventually!
Excludes NA, so looks like y'all safe!
It's old news, but here if anyone's interested:

You might have a fight on your hands to prevent the dealer doing what they'll consider a mandatory update. Mine was done (without any mention to me, before or after) when I had the rear parcel shelf replaced under warranty. Not impressed that they did this, but didn't fix the headlamp washer cover I'd asked them to sort out. Bloody dealers ....

How annoying...I know it's not a real world problem, but if MY car is going to be modified in some way, then have the courtesy to inform me before the work is carried out so that I can make an informed decision on whether I want the work to go ahead or not.

Fortunately, mine falls well outside the VIN range at 2XXXX.
I assume that they are only interested in modifying newer 17', 18' and 19' cars as I guess the legislation came into affect somewhere around then?
I have read the UN-ECE document, but it's a ball ache to get your head round.

So, I'm hoping that it won't be done, but you never know.
To alleviate any doubt, I will talk to my servicing dealer and I have a lockable cover over the OBD port just in case!

Where did you source the lockable cover?

That came from your side of the pond. It was the only decent quality engineered product I could find that didn't look like some Heath Robinson design. This is very sleek, Billet Alooominum and anodised.

Cost me an arm and a leg with customs and postage, but worth it.

Try the guys at BEM Autos. Nicole is the lady on the other end of the email.

@ Tel; had to look up that "Heath Robinson"; that's some funny stuff that you Brits come up with. Always learning something on this forum. At least that's what I tell others.

A wonderful illustrator of hugely over engineered items:

I remember seeing those comics in the Sunday paper when I was a kid (loooong time ago).

Just got my Universal Tune saver from BEM Auto. Nicely made unit. Installed it but two minor concerns. The first is that it fits a little loosely on the port. Not as tight as I would have expected and might rattle. The second is that it sticks down toward the footwell a bit and I could envision it getting accidentally kicked getting in the car and maybe damage the OBD II port.

Will live with it a while and see how it goes. If I have issues it is cheap enough to toss in the tool box or just give away.

Anyone have a 3D print file for the OBD port lock?

Simonusa0 12-12-2023 08:24 AM

Not sure that even if you got a 3-D print file, that a printed item in plastic would be much use as a security device!.... unless you have the capability to print in sintered metal?
