Hi guys - another question

how well does the Jag paint stand up to stone chips

the Nissan paint is as soft as and marks very easily

390 odd views and know one knows if their front end is peppered or not ? :icon_bunny::icon_denk:

MY front end is as perfect as the day I picked up my car from the dealer. 13,500 + miles and not one chip or scratch.

I have XPel Ultimate! (MANY of us do!)

soft paint, just like Porsche. You need a wrap, as you would on any Exotic if you wish to keep it looking good.

13k miles. No wrap. No chips. Salsa paint.

I don't see any difference in chip propensity between the F-Type and any other of the dozen or so vehicles I've owned in the last decade. I do have the nose covered now, but drove it for almost a year without dings and without Xpel. In retrospect, I would have been fine without.

Gov regulations have required manufacturers to move toward more environmentally friendly paints, but they're all using essentially the same compounds these days.

The xirallic paint is pretty soft/thin. I have a few chips along the A pillar (as it extends beside the roof) and a couple rocks have landed on the haunches. The worst place is the side panels right in front of the rear tires. Those have serious road rash. The front half of the car is completely covered in clear bra so no damage to any of that. I really wish they did the bottom all the way around, up to the door. After 10k miles the sides are pretty worn, and this is pretty much all fair weather driving.

Hmmm, score another advantage for non-metallic paint. I'm missing the rash in all of the uncovered areas you mentioned.

Yeah I was actually surprised at how much it accumulated on both sides in that spot. Some hand polishing with swirl remover helped a bit. I just got a dual action polisher so will give that a go on the entire car this weekend after a full claying. Will see if that improves the area.

Still wouldn't pick another color, love Italian Racing Red. :icon_lol:

Even the xPel is accumulating road rash in those areas.

I would think the xirallic has the same clear coat as the standard metalic, so it should not be any difference there.


I have treated my paint with a rather hard and protective coating (GTechniq Crystal Serum) which improves both swirl resistance and resistance from road rash.


Probabely not as effective as a wrap, but so far it has done a good job, it looks great and washing the car has never been easier.

True, but a noticeable rock chip has penetrated both the clear coat and the base color.

In addition, I was also talking about the non-metallic paints, like Polar, Ebony, Salsa, Caldera, etc. I've only had a couple of tiny chips on those vulnerable areas in front of the rear wheels, which are totally unprotected in my case. It's also incredibly easy to make them disappear on non-metallic Polar White or any other non-metallic paint.
