F-Type SVR Discussion Thread
Just read a bit about it on autospies.com. Seems that it will share tech from the upcoming Project 7 development. Estimated to be around 600 HP with AWD.

I would imagine that is RWD based on the hood vents. Appears to be all speculation right now.
|
meh. Jaguar makes too big a deal out of adding 50 hp here and there.

F-type svr
|
ofc
|
This thing will be great with AWD. Extra power will offset weight.
|
I hate the SVR moniker, and I hate that Jaguar is sharing the same nomenclature with Land Rover.

They want SVR to sound like AMG :icon_party: |
I don't care what it's called. If it is lighter and faster, sign me up !

MC Lighter, ofc it can go lighter, just make as much carbon fibre as possible to reduce the weight, strip out some of the interior which lets be honest isn't the most lush. Faster- just make it more aerodynamic, bigger wings and and lower. What else? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...cda0fe7121.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...7ab75a8dc1.jpg |
I doubt it will be lighter but it may have better active aero like 991 Turbo S and more power. If they really want to take on Porsche they should also source a DCT from Getrag.

So, does SVR have any historical significance or is it just something the marketing dept. at JLR dreamed up? AMG has an historic meaning for Daimler-Benz as does the M for the BMW group.

The R-S had no historical significance either. Only the R badge has historical significance at Jaguar. |

No they are making history.

You guys know that JLR was in a legal dispute with VW/Audi for the R/R-S branding, and lost?
Which is why Jag changed the "R" branding from a square to a round background. And very likely why they are looking for a new performance brand. R = too similar to VW R Line R-S = too similar to Audi RS4/5/6 The VW/Audi logos were almost identical to the Jag ones. Jag lost... The short term response was to change the background of the Jag R logo from square to round. Long term was, find a new brand. I never knew that there was a lawsuit, but I'm not surprised. I always thought that the R logo was very similar to the Volkswagen one. I definitely like the R nomenclature better because it does have a history. It was simpler.
I bet you they would not of been sued if they did not use the "R-S" nomenclature. At that point, I think that they were pushing it. To be honest, they should've just kept it under the R name in the same way BMW uses M. After that, if they wanted boosted performance models they could've called them SVR spec or something like that. That would've blended history, along with new ground. |
