Finally in the 10's....

Ok, got to the track Friday night. Overall cannot complain one bit.

Pretty solid weather - DA was 1058 feet, not ideal, but not awful. Onto the good stuff.

1st pass: All boost with meth/water injection / ported blower

60' 1.68
330' 4.70
1/8 7.14 @ 100.35
1000 9.25

11.02 @ 125.7

For the record, the car has never...ever...60 footed that hard. Almost all the gains here were in the 1st half of the track, both ET and mph. If you check out my other thread, you can see huge torque gains I have down low over previous tune. The guys at PowerHaus Performance knocked it out of the park. I can't properly describe how the car feels down low / mid-range. Proper tune, on a mustang dyno...go figure.

Now it's party time on the bottle.

60' 1.71
330' 4.68
1/8 7.07 @ 99.73
1000 9.13

10.88 @ 128.6

Best part was the look on people's faces and the cheers as I drove up the return lane...top down....

It was a 70 shot on a progressive controller. And you can easily tell it's set to a SLOWWWW ramp up. Not bad for the first hit and we'll make some adjustments to bring the nitrous in more quickly. Once we get that dialed in, I still think the car will go 10.55-10.65

This was all on regular 92oct pump gas + meth/water injection. Ran like a champ, kept the shiny side up and all the parts inside the engine.

The tune is spot on, anyone local should swing by and take it for a spin - it's ridiculous.

AMAZING and congrats!!!

Any street drivability issues?

It's louder under full throttle. But otherwise, no issues yet :) I'll be straight, I was a bit nervous...as we were in uncharted Jaguar territory - but - still runs just dandy.

Super!!

What are you doing on the launch? Rear tires at 20? Trac. control? Dynamic mode?

I want to take my XKR to E-town soon, but I am not happy with the launch.

Thanks for any advice.

Unhingd 06-18-2016 02:35 PM

Philly,
Big congratulations to you.

Thanks everyone... :)

Let's see.
24psi cold in 19" MT drag radials - trac control is totally turned off, dynamic mode, car in Sport.

Basically just light on the brake at the line and then WOT and launch - pretty much right off idle.

What part of your launch do you have a problem with?

JagSTR2004 06-18-2016 04:23 PM

Amazing and congratulations on the first 10 second jag! :icon_worthy::icon_worthy::icon_worthy:

Any further mods planned? Looking forward to your 10 second all boost slip too as you were so close!

Padre 06-18-2016 06:33 PM

Awesome and congrats. :icon_beerchug:

Give yourself some credit for driving skills. You're launch technique is pretty much what I would do on my 10.3@133 Camaro, and it makes a big difference. Launch off idle, I would cut low 1.5 60's on MT DR's while the other guys were trying to brake torque it to 3000 rpm+ and wondering if they needed slicks.

I built my Camaro to be a "mid-summer mid-10 second" car. Looks like you've almost got that. :icon_cool:

Of course, if you're racing at E-Town, it doesn't count... :icon_lol: :icon_tongue: (We Southern racers are jealous of your DA ;).)

Thanks for posting all the info. That is *super* impressive. Glad I don't live near so I don't spanked that hard if I ran into you!

Smoke Em 06-19-2016 12:43 AM

great job Jay.. Very impressive results. Let me know next time going to head over to Atco and I'll see if I can meet you.. Keep up the great work!!

Dremorg 06-19-2016 01:28 AM

Damn that's one quick Jag! Congrats. I'd like to have seen that 10sec run myself.

I found the answer this morning and was smoking the rears, yahoo. I wasn't getting trac control off previously; no matter how long I held the button down. I just had a new battery installed and a hard reboot done. Now I can turn off trac control.

Thanks for your input. I think I need different tires. Heck I know I need different tires. How are the M & T's for everyday driving around; or do you just use them on the strip?

Thanks brother! And you got it, shooting for mid-summer / mid-10sec car :)

Haha, even better than E-Town, I race at Atco!! DA was 1083 and as you probably know, sometimes it even goes negative ;) I have no idea how you Southern folks deal with all that heat and crazy humidity down there - more power to ya.

JagSTR - yeah man, you know I'll be trying for that all boost 10 second pass. As for other mods, once I'm happy with the times from this setup and...recovered from spending the $$ to do it!...I'll probably get ahold of the guys at Velocity for a setup of proper downpipes and see if they'll do an exhaust too or drop in a Quicksilver exhaust. Get a few HP and drop some pounds.

Rob - glad you're getting to the bottom of it, racing is great and frustrating at the same time, isn't it?! Def need tires, it'll be a great investment and you'll like the track alot more :) I generally run them only at the track...but...I do street drive them from time to time. Sometimes long drives too. They're tolerable on the daily - you'll feel some more roll with the tire and handling will be a bit different.

Thanks guys...I'll get a thread started next time I get get to the track, would be nice to see some of you guys there!

SickRob 06-19-2016 10:13 AM

Please let us know next time you are going. It would be fun to join you, even if I don't run.

Foosh 06-19-2016 03:31 PM

Philly,

Will they even let you run again at that track? I thought once a car entered the 10s, you needed a cage, and convertibles were a no no.

There's alot of rules that they and alot of tracks look the other way on. Convertibles aside, any car running under 11.49 should have a bar / cage and anything under 10.99 a certified cage. Honestly, I think with so many OEM cars running so quick these days, they look the other way. Maybe if I was running bottom 10's or a really high trap - they'd pull be aside. But so far, all they really wanted to see was if I had an SFI fire jacket (bc of the nitrous), which I did :)

Yep, enjoy it while it lasts. Once I put a 6-point in my Camaro, I rarely drove it on the street. It's more dangerous - big bars for an unhelmeted head to hit.

Key thing you'll miss without a cage is sanctioned events. I raced in a series called the LSX Shootout, and tech never would have let me run 10s without one. I may race that series again if I put an LS3 in my newly acquired 91 XJS (bought it without a motor). :)

I was always hoping to get that 9.99 slip. Alas. :( Bet I could have done it at Atco! ;)

I would think they would require those bars to be heavily padded. Making helmet contact with an exposed bar pretty much renders the helmet immediately useless.

This car will never...ever...see any racing "events". :D

I have a PT106 here if you wanna strap it onto your LS3 in your Jag!

Well, another "event" you might be open to is the Texas Mile (or one of several such standing-mile events in the US). I was going to shoot for 180 with my Camaro before I blew the rear.

And I am positive that if I had a PT106, I would put it to good use. :icon_denk: :icon_pimp: I figure I would need 1000+ rwhp to do a 200mph run in the Mile with an XJS... No problema. :icon_cool:
