Going back to C8 Mid-Engine Corvette...?
Having coming from my 2 previous C5 & C7 Corvette convertibles, before my current F-type R convertible, maybe looking to go back to the new Mid-Engine C8 Vette around mid 2022 when my warranty is up.
Although I love my current R vert, I'm not too optimistic about where Jaguar plans for my next replacement F-type, as my perception that the Jag keeps lowering the performance bar to below 300 hp in their new 4 cylinders, maybe going to hybrids or all electric. At least the new Vette may up their base V8 to 500+ HP... |
Hold your breath until you have some reality to deal with.

I’ll believe it when I see it. The mid engine Vette has been just around the corner since Columbus was a midshipman.

LOVED my C7. Definitely replacing my FT-R with a mid-engined vette. Hell yeah.

The proportions of that car seem all wrong to me. Perhaps it's just to my eye, but it looks very squat with the cabin/seats too far forward. I realize being mid-engine dictates this, but other manufacturers seem to deal with it in a much better fashion. Also, how are they going to be able to adapt that shape into a convertible?
|
It's uncertain what type of engine will be in the mid-engine C8 and where the price point will be. Hard to imagine a mid-engine Vette with similar or greater power than the C7 around the same price. I just don't see it happening but we'll see in a few months. I'm interested as mid-engine cars are superb on track days.

We've been hearing about mid-engined Corvettes since my mid-engined car was designed 50 years ago. I, however, do believe this time it's real as GM is offering customers direct from the factory updates as to its release. I'll be very interested to read the first reviews about the car's handling, power., and pricing. It should be a beast! In the meantime, I'll hold on to my mid-engined beast.

I recognize the De Tomaso design in the wheels, but these look larger in diameter than the stock wheels... my imagination? |
Tork Monster,
No, it's not your imagination. Original Campys were 15" wheels which were standard for the day. When I bought the car more than 15 years ago, I upgraded the braking system with bigger calipers that necessitated going to 17" wheels. Several Pantera vendors have done 17" and 18" Campy clones to recreate the look of the originals while accommodating upgrades. Plus, it's nearly impossible to find 335 35 15 tires any longer for the rears. Even the 335 35 17's are only available from Pirelli and Michelin now and are very difficult to get. (as well as expensive). Tomorrow is Pantera Marque Day at our local Supercar Sunday Car Show, so I'll be driving over there in the morning. Pictures tomorrow afternoon in the non Jaguar vehicles forum. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...713746dd46.jpg |

+8. We’ve been within just months of a mid-engine Vette introduction for over half a century.

Vette looks a lot like current NSX, same layout.

I'm just sayin' by 2022, I'll have a decision to make. Replace with new F-Type R with maybe 550 hp for $110K+ (haven't heard any commitment from Jaguar that they'll increase hp anytime soon), or new C8 Vette with 520 hp for $75K, or Z06 with 700+ hp for 90K+...
|
MId engine 500+ HP for around $75K, might be the new value champ of the performance world.

I'll consider one around the same timeframe, if they make the c8 even slightly larger on the inside. at 6'7" I can mostly-comfortably pilot my f-type. I cannot even get all the way into the seat and behind the wheel of a C7, much less drive it for any length of time. Not even with the seat limiter removed. I've wanted a vette since I was a teenager. Maybe it will finally be possible...
|
Biggest disappointment about C8 is lack of manual gearbox option. With all exotics moving away from MT, C8 could have been the car to get for driving enthusiast.
