Hope to get my car back this week.
 

I took my car in to the dealer on December 28 for three things:

1) Active exhaust noise: Under or around 2000 rpms I heard a vibrating noise. There is a TSB for this particular issue which appeared to describe the issue perfectly.
2) Stereo fix. TSB for the speaker rattle.
3) Odd creaking noise coming from behind the driver side heard when turning on an incline or decline, or going up my driveway. It's like the sound of walking slowly on old, creaky, wood floors.

The dealer spent 12/28 and 12/29 determining/confirming the problems.

They call me on 12/29 and tell me the car did have the active exhaust problem but he had to order the part needed for the repair. Given it was Friday and New Year's day on that Monday, to my disgruntlement, the car had to sit at the dealer through January 1. January 2 I get a call saying the exhaust and stereo repairs had been completed and they had narrowed the creaky noises to a bad strut/shock on the drivers side rear that they would be replacing. The bad news was the part needed to be ordered. SA told me he sent it overnight it so it would be there on January 3 and the car would be done that day. January 3 I get a call and he tells me the part was supposed to come from LA but they didn't have it and so it was now coming from Atlanta, blah, blah, blah. They promised a call back next day. January 4 they call me and say part came, and they were working on it but not sure it would get done by end of day. Well, they didnt get it done that day either. On January 5 I get a call saying the part was replaced but noise still there and they were debating what to do next. They say most likely on Monday (tomorrow) they will need to send it to another Jaguar specialist who fixes body noise issues and that will probably take 2 days, expect the car by Wednesday.

I'm a patient guy but this is a bit ridiculous don't you think?

Anyone else have the body noise issue?

Got an update.

Car is at the other authorized service agent and apparently, they cannot determine the reason for the noises either.

I asked if I just took the car back as is, could they assure me that the issue would not cause any premature wear or other problems, and they said, at this point, everyone agrees this is not normal and something needs to be fixed.

Feeling like a guinea pig.

The wait continues.

Not to jump the gun, but I believe at least one forum member had his car replaced due to bonding issues. We'll hope it isn't that.

The aluminium panels used in the F-Type are glued and riveted together, not welded like normal steel panels, because it's very difficult verging on impossible to weld aluminium. There is a video or two somewhere on this forum showing how it is done in the factory.
Sometimes a glued and riveted - "bonded" - joint comes a bit loose, and then that part of the car will creak, groan and rattle something shocking. The only way to permanently repair it is to strip everything out of the way and re-glue and re-rivet the joint(s), which very few repair shops are trained, equipped and staffed to do, and it costs a bomb, so it's easier for JLR just to replace the whole car.

The rear driver side creaks and groans something fierce on turns and up and down driveways.

Yep, my rear end has recently started to creak and groan a bit going in and out of my garage (tight turn from the street over a bit of a spoon drain) and when going slow around a bumpy corner.
But it sounds to me more like trim panels in the hatch, especially side panels, than metal bits.

I had something similar happen. It turned out to be nothing more than the trim on the tonneau/luggage cover as it's rubber on rubber so as the weather drys out it appears that those to rub against each other creating a creaking sound. I removed my cover and POOF the creaking is now absent

Yep, I've played around a fair bit with that cover to eliminate any noises it makes.
Just a little while ago I tried a test.
I removed the luggage cover and the floor panels and the cubby/box from the rear and went for a drive and the creaks and groans were all still there totally unchanged. So that proved that none of those covers, panels and box are the cause(s) of the creaks and groans.
I found I can duplicate the creaks and groans 99% by pushing sideways on either of the two rear body panels (fenders), either side of the bottom edge of the hatch (near the tail lights). A bit of squeaking when I push down on them, but lots of creaking and groaning when I push out on them (from inside the open hatch). This sideways movement is consistent with my driving experience as the creaks and groans are much more pronounced when turning.
I'm now fairly sure I have tracked down the source of the creaks and groans but I have absolutely no idea how to fix it. I hope it's not the bonding issue but I have a horrible feeling it might be!

It wouldn't play for me at first either as it is blocked in the USA but working for a British Telecom has it's advantages as I was able to login via VPN through london & could watch it that way. :icon_pirate:
