Insurance Question
I’m thinking of looking for a different insurance company with better rates for my 2017 F-type R coupe. I’m currently with Century 21 and on all the good driver discounts they have. Collision is the biggest chunk from the overall cost. Does anyone have a suggestion for another reputable insurance company (I live in Los Angeles) that my have better rates? Being a 2017, and figuring in depreciation, I would think that my rates would be lower than they are. 21st century doesn’t seem to budge much on that, but perhaps they are basing their premium on repair costs rather than the total value of the depreciated vehicle . Anyway, if any of you number crunchers have a recommendation for a reputable insurance company I can check out. let me know :-)
Thanks CRS |
Try one of the collector insurance companies like Haggerty or Grundy. They have great rates for exotics that aren't driven much.
If the F is your daily driver, check with Progressive. BTW - did you mean 21st Century? i was with them a while back, but their rates got too high, so I went shopping. |
I found AAA is very reasonable. Had a claim once and it worked out well.

I have USAA, which doesn't help if you don't have an in. My 2016 F-Type costs more to ensure than my SOs 2021 Audi Q8. I shopped around because it seemed high and I could not find a better rate. State Farm was close, but offered less coverage.

I found the best rates on Geico. We have an Audi A7 (2019), Jeep Grand Cherokee (2017) and the R-dynamic F-Type (2021) insured through them.
They have always been easy to work with, responsive and have dealt with our few small claims quickly. We carry maximum optional coverages and $1,000 deductible. Rate is $1,416 every 6 months. Found Geico less than Progressive for the cars but more for the motorcycle.. We live in a "safe" community south of Boston with low crime, so depending on where you garage, your rates could obviously be quite different. |
I found Geico the best for our F Type and Ghibli when bundled with house and million dollar rider. Max coverage with $500 ded. Now have a free accident waiver after 3 years. Nev. has had a bad claim history with large judgements so all companies have gotten more expensive, always penalized for 24 hour city.

We are with Country Financial, $500 deductible, $724 for 6 months. Discounts for having multiple cars, "good" driver and having the house and $1,000,000 umbrella with them.

Years ago I had Nationwide and they had great rates for the younger folks compared to others. Not sure what they are like now, but they had great coverage.
I've had USAA for about 20 years now and they are hard to beat, but you gotta be a veteran or have someone in your family that was to get you in. I managed to get my niece in. '17 Kia Soul (daughter's) '14 F Type V8S (mine) and '20 F Pace SVR (wife's) for $1,200 every six months and only because my 21 y/o daughter is listed as a driver for all. |
I just went through this. I have had GEICO for the last 19 years with no complaints. No accidents either. I had GEICO Homeowners Insurance and an auto policy. When I moved 2 years ago, GEICO refused to insure my home because I was in a high fire danger zone and because of the losses that the insurance companies incurred due to all the fires in California the last few years.
Farmers wrote a Homeowners Policy for me. When I placed the order for my 2021 F Type R I used an online source: www.thezebra.com/ that compared rates among all the major companies, Mercury, GEICO and Travelers came out the lowest. Then I had my Farmers agent work up a quote adding the Jaguar and my Mazda CX 5 bundled with my H.O. policy. When done that way, I saved about $50 per 6 months from the lowest quotes I received on each vehicle plus got a pretty good discount on the H.O. policy as well. By the way, the 6 month premium on the new F type is $1074 when bundled with my other car and home insurance. That is with good driver discounts and driving less than 5000 miles per year. |
The only way to find out is to shop the hell out of every option, easiest way would be going through a local broker and give them your current policy info, and compare the premium on the same basis line.
If prices are similar I'd always go with the larger companies, personally I have had great experience from both state farm and geico, including premium, and claims:icon_bricks: Another thing to note is, insurance companies don't necessarily share their data, and not every accident goes onto your dmv record :icon_goofygrin: |
When I was looking at the Aston and again with the Lotus, I got pointed to AIG. I got a quote from them that was actually less than I was paying for the current five vehicles. I wound up adding neither of those two vehicles though and have three of mine with Liberty Mutual and two with Hagerty.
So much of the ratings process is driven by where you live...I would imagine LA is far worse than being in the middle of nowhere, especially now that the State has abandoned much of the prosecution of lower-dollar crimes. I have not had a claim with Liberty in quite some time. Hagerty was very quick when the XK8 was backed into...I called them, they told me to get a quote and email it it to them and I had a check within a few days. No claims adjuster was ever involved in the process. Better yet was no premium increase the next year... The thing with Hagerty is that the vehicle cannot be driven a lot...I believe I have a 3K mile cap on annual mileage for the XK8 and the Miata. I had also run a quote through them to add a FIAT 124 that I was looking to snag and put into storage and a new 2020 with limited miles was going to be less than $400 additional per year for full coverage. |
Wow...love this forum. Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond and share your thoughts with me. Very valuable feedback. I'll explore all of those options. For sure, location and zip code are the driving factors (excuse the pun) for overall rates. Maybe I can look into a bundle deal. Again...thank you all so much.:)

I've always had good dealings with AmFam. I have all my vehicles and house insured by them and I'm paying less than $100/month for the F-Type with full coverage, drops to less than $50 in the winter when it's in storage. I'm finally reaping some of the fringe benefits of having a clean record and getting "older" haha.

Not sure if West Bend serves your area. They offer multi-car discounts. We have a 2018 Corvette, the 2017 F, a 2013 VW and a 2012 Silverado.

I have Progressive. $484/yr +$74 for uninsured +$145 for an umbrella with the usual discounts for bundling. In some states, including NC, umbrellas are attached to you car insurance, but it varies. USAA is definitely a top choice, if you qualify. Haggerty's is great if you have limited driving, but you need to have a separate primary car. No one has mentioned Amica, but they have a good rep.
Also, remember you're shopping for more than premiums, so check who's easier to work with if you have a claim. If you have a relationship with a local body shop, ask them who they recommend. For example, my preferred shop will not take your business if you're with GEICO. I own BRK, but pass on the lizard. You'll find that some insurers are more/less aggressive on rates, depending on the state you're in and whether they're interested in expanding, or just keeping |
