You sound like one of those people that says "No offense" and goes on to say really offensive things.
My first car at age 15 was a convertible. My first new car was a TR4, obviously a convertible. I have owned over 60 cars, lifetime, and over 40 were convertibles. Usually, I have a DD, lately a Hybrid or plug-in, but my weekend/fun car has always been a convertible. Exactly when does "midlife" kick in?

I was born the same year as the Corvette. Midlife still hasn't kicked in yet..

That clearly went over your head. My response was a sarcastic one, hence the "quotes" around the statement. The member I was responding to grouped all the Coupe drivers as insecure. My comment was to show how ridiculous his/her statement was. I didn't actually imply convertible drivers fit that bill.

Back to the thread.

IMO, Coupe = Better looking and more utility. Convertible = Open top experience and the exhaust sounds wild. I have driven both.

Oh, I recognize sarcasm when I hear it - some of my friends think I invented it. However, I chose to reply anyway. The coupe is obviously better looking than the convertible with the top up. But I personally like the looks of the convertible when the top is down, which is where mine is nearly all the time. Granted the coupe has more luggage space, but after owning two F-Type convertibles, I have yet to fill the trunk. Also, having driven them for over fifty years, I just enjoy convertibles more.

I agree with your logic, but in the UK the top would be ugly, er ... up, most of the time, so I'm a coupe man - I like my car to look gorgeous all the time.

The responses to my comment have fed me for many years. The idea of being offended by a random Californian seems intellectually lazy.
What happened to men that are friends enjoying some ribald ribbing in lieu of having differing opinions?
Sorry, tho... my best friend is from Philly and has been educating me on how gents angrily and joyfully banter. Maybe I'm not good at it yet.

lol these guys taking metal, plastic, and rubber so personally.

OMG the Bentley vert comment is a joy. What a perfect description. I'm sad to say my comment was taken too seriously, and people over-reacted. Your comment was sanguine and balanced, and HILARIOUS. It's not that hot where I am. But man... I've seen those guys, and that beet red sweaty in a baseball cap "trying so hard to look comfy" vibe is overly common. great jab.

Hey that's not what I said at all! And a bunch of dudes in this thread seem to have not so subtle anger issues. I was obviously joking. If it wasn't obvious, I will get better at nuance in written words. Give me a few years.

This is absolutely superb. Bravo and well done and a "thanks" button doesn't really do it. The way I burn my candle, it's possible 22 was mid life. this is a relative thing.

I think the convertible looks better top up, and more so top down. I am in the minority, but the majority chose Ford Fiestas. It sure as hell sounds better inside the car.

I don't believe this mid life crap unless you're talking 911 porsche! I'm 70 and drive the vert. My first car was a ';59 TR3 and all but 2 since have been verts. Either you like having the roof down or you don't, no big deal. The only advice I give friends is don't get a roadster unless you are going to put the roof down alot!

Think about this : don't buy a cabrio if you're bald and live in a sunny state...

... in order not to burn the skin from your scalp you'd have to wear a cap..

..for this not to be blown away in the wind, you'd have to wear it backwards ...

Do you want to look like that.. ..when you're 40+ yrs old.. .. really ???

the convertible looks good top up if the car colour is black or white in my opinion because white/black looks good and so does black/black.

I beg to differ : most people chose not a Fiesta but a F150 pick up, which is a truck with a rear end cabrio section, for cattle only...

On the grounds of your argument, as I consider myself to be a driver - not cattle - , I sit in the covered area by preference.. .. not to give rise to speculation..

It's not the colo(u)r that spoils it, it's the shape of the roof - the coupe is waaay sleeker and sexier.

It’s the color for sure. You get away with it a lot easier with a black or white car. Of course the coupe looks sleeker but still.

As a vert owner I can admit that the coupe looks nicer with my top up but with the top down i get all the looks!
