Leaking Diff
Just had my 2015 F-Type 3.0L V6 S Coupe MOT’d and had an advisory = oil covering rear diff casing. Leaking diff? I purchased the car back in March 2024. Mileage 18k! After a week or two I noticed oil on the diff so had it returned to franchised dealer where I purchased it from. The repair was undertaken under Jaguar warranty. Jan 2025, again noticed oil leak from the diff. I took it to another franchised Jag dealer for a new seal to be fitted to the diff. under Jag warranty. My Jag warranty expires in days, but spoke to my local Jag franchised dealer who indicated that as I have reported the issue before the expiry of the warranty, it will be covered and the car is booked in at the beginning of April for the work to be carried out. I’m not renewing the Jag warranty as they want to charge me £1700! Has anyone else had this reoccurring problem and how has it been resolved, if at all?
What exactly is leaking? Pinion seal, vent, half shaft seals or inspection plate seal? Based on other posts, I’d bet the vent is clogged and pressure from the hot air inside the diff is blowing a seal. Have them change the vent when they have the diff down this time.
Thanks Robtrt8, the MOT engineer wasn’t able to confirm what was the offending part as it doesn’t come into his remit for passing the cars MOT. He did however say that it could be the vent being blocked. I will let my franchised dealer know when I take it in for the work to be carried out.
I'd take it to a JLR specialist. People in the UK forum might be able to recommend one in your area. I'm in Yorkshire otherwise I'd tell you to go to mine as they're far superior to my local dealership.
I have a 2016R and my pinion seal is weeping also.
Other than taking a zip tie or needle and poking/prodding around in the breather, is there a more intelligent way to clean the breather vent? There is no room to get a can of brake clean up there to spray it down.

A leaking pinion seal isn’t necessarily caused by a blocked vent. My pinion seal was replaced at 54,000 miles under warranty and hasn’t leaked since. I changed to fluid at 95,000 miles.
There’s a thread here somewhere about cutting a hole in the bottom of the trunk to access the vent.
