Default Mina cold air intake, Good or Bad. Answer is revealed

Hi Guys,
in past posts, I did state any metal piping for the air intake induction system is not beneficial. Must be either carbon fiber or composite type plastic material.

Here is the proof.

Knowing this part results in heat soak and lose of horsepower, people still clamor about this item.
Mina, has the nerve to claim you'll get approx 10 to 15 HP gain, when it's the total opposite.
Budget products rarely if ever work as the seller claims.

Correct, it does not produce a power gain.
However the heat soak issue is somewhat overstated, and the data collection methods in that video are not exactly meticulous. Again, all has been discussed in the previous thread.

Agree, it's a great cosmetic and acoustical mod.

Would be interesting to see data logs of otherwise identical cars (one with stock intake and one with Mina) driving down the same stretch of road on the same day. I'd like to see if and when the IATs differ, and by how much. We already know that IAT will be higher for the Mina intake in idle or near-idle conditions, but I'm interested to see what happens when the car is *actually driving* (for example, during a spirited stretch on some twisties).

I think a fairly large point has been missed in this discussion - upper half vs lower half.
AFAICT the problems with higher IATs (if they really exist other than at idle) only apply to the metal upper half (the shiny metal pipes under the hood) and not to the lower half where the real gains in SC whine are made.
For that reason I went with the lower half only and I still have the stock plastic upper half in place.
OK it looks a bit plain and not as nice as the shiny pipes but I get all the benefits of increased SC whine, possibly/maybe a few extra horsepowers and torques, and none of the possible downside of hot metal pipes.
And one more added bonus - the lower half by itself costs a fair bit less than the full kit.

Cheers, where did you buy yours from?

Direct from Mina: https://minagallery.com/jaguar-f-typ...-tube-filters/
Can't remember the shipping cost but it wasn't toooo horrendous.

Edit - IIRC I got it on a Black Friday deal for around 25% off the normal price.

Edit 2 - I found the purchase invoice, it was $185 US plus $45 US postage (on 19/06/21), so yes a bit cheaper than the current Mina listing of $284.47 US and the postage was fairly cheap for the size and weight of the package.

Hmmm, price on the Paramount/Viezu one is about AUD$1600 delivered against Mina probs $650 delivered . Dont need the hp gains and I've opened th bnnet maybe once a year during my ownership so dont need the looks, I think this is making Mina look pretty reasonable.

Done! Looking forward to it, thanks for the help.

Just a post script to this, I was excited enough to buy the lower section, it was fitted and I got it back today. I was only expecting a sound improvement, I think it is much gruffer at idle (I already had BMC filters in it which the cone filters replaced) so it is sounding much meatier. The whine is extremely prominent when there is something bouncing the sound back, eg driving near a car or van, not really noticeable otherwise especially with the VAP exhaust that drowns everything out once the revs climb. Surprisingly I think there is a bit of improvement with throttle responsiveness, though it had a service at the same time and something might have been adjusted.

All told a cheap-ish mod which I am very pleased with.
