Nice shot!
New camera? |
Heh, no. I was planning on washing and waxing it, but there was so much crap coming off the trees I just took pictures instead. :)
Nikon D90 w/ 16-85mm |
The color hides it really well - looks clean and shiny.

Well, I did wash it the day before, but it dried faster than I could dry it, so it had water spots. Needed to rewash before waxing, but no luck. White pines all along my driveway throw off a lot of stuff this time of year. Plus, it was windy.

I drove in pouring rain, fog, and wet leaves.
Basically it had no business being out - but still had a good time. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...ine=1381257886 |

Met up with with another local F-typer for an enjoyable breakfast, and so our cars could meet each other. Salsa Red V6S, meet BRG V8S. Play nice together...

Brought the car in to Unique Car Care in Boston, where it has been getting a full body Xpel treatment. It still needs a polish, opticoat, and the badges (and mirrors) put back on - also had them tint the side/rear windows.
Attachment 1 They also did a timelapse of the whole process and made a video of it (although this is not the final edit): I pick it back up tomorrow and am thrilled to get it back. |
I Googled Xpel... wanna give me the 411 on it since their website is not very info'friendly?
Is it just a clear bra for the whole car? How does it look when it's on? Identical to it coming off the showroom? Can you take the film off and does it leave a mess and how much does it cost? OMG - your car looks just like mine. S I C K |

OMG - your car looks just like mine. S I C K Xpel is a fancy clear bra, and usually you just get it on the front, but I went ahead and did the whole thing. Helps prevent swirls and the like (they do a detail on the car, and then put the Xpel on). The fancy part about Xpel is that it is layers, which supposedly "self heal" when exposed to heat (I think the polymers work no matter what, but "heal" faster when exposed to heat). So you can find videos online of a car being scratched, and then "healing" - the clear bra helps prevent damage to what is underneath, and also avoids seeing marks on it. When I had my R8, it had the 3M product on it, but if that got scratched, the scratch stayed there. Supposedly there are products you can apply to "melt" the 3M back into place, but they never worked correctly for me (or maybe I did it wrong, or had the wrong product). Everyone recommended I go Xpel Ultimate - so did that, and since the car came with Factory Installed Swirls in the paint, I opted for the whole thing to get done. |

1) supposedly the car looks shinier or even wet with it on, once it has cured and been polished (hasn't yet in these pics) Supposedly holds the underlying detail better, and you don't get the little imperfections that add up to "not as shiny" - I've seen some people saying that they didn't even detail the swirls out first on theirs, and this just hid them anyway (thin clear film over it, helps obscure them I guess) - although I think that was a red car I saw that about, not sure if the same on black. 2) Identical? Not sure, some may say better. I know that you can get matte wraps that are clear - but I don't know if Xpel comes that way - but this one is shiny so it looks like a clear coat. 3) You can take it off, but I don't know what it leaves. I assume it is like any other clear bra product in that sense, where they have chemicals they use that help remove its adhesive but not impact the car/paint. I have not taken it off, so I don't know, nor do I know if it is messy. 4) Cost? Here in Boston, the quote I had was Just under $2k to have the whole front done (full fenders, full hood, full grill) and the tint and detail in there (like $1800). For the full car, it was $5500 and I haven't picked it up yet, so I don't know if the tint/detail is included in that price. As you can see from the video, it is a lot of man hours of work on it to do the whole thing. I'm also a fan of black cars, and bad about detailing, so hoping this will help a bit. And also give peace of mind on rock chips. |
Was that your choice of music in the video? I watched the whole thing thanks to Laidback Luke jamming out...
...sucks that you're in Boston and I in florida because that's something I'd love to see in person. Looks legit for sure. Are you going to take some high res pictures when it's cured and let the rest of us see? |

Picked up the car last night (pic is me talking to the guy who supervised the work):
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...ine=1383747003 The guy said that the body panels that meet at the joint in front of the rear wheels flex (the lower panel is plastic, the upper is aluminum) and it wears the paint there. He added extra wrap and touch up there to help counter it, but it will need to be monitored. I told him I already had the issue on one side "fixed" but this sounds like an ongoing issue - great. On the good side, the black is easy enough to match he said. He also thought that the paint was low quality, and then said "oh right, you have Range Rover paint, known to be awful" (or Land Rover, whatever he said). Said the wrap is the best thing to do for it, given the rep of the paint. (since I had already done it at this point, he didn't need to sell me on it) But it really looks fantastic. |
