Default Oil Change interval on new F - Type - mileage 1000 miles

I feel like the oil should be changed earlier than the first scheduled service on a new motor. I just turned 1000 miles, and I was wondering at what mileage you all would suggest doing a first oil change, outside of the suggested interval?

I know the factory probably puts in some sort of break in additive, so I do not want to do this too early.

Thanks

There's a huge thread around regarding this but most of us have done the first oil change early. I myself have sent the oil in to a lab to get tested so I can gauge how my engine is wearing. Initial test was metal content being very high; expected as the engine is breaking in. Oil changes after has resulted in a drop of metal content and stabilizing.

Same observations on my oil testing. I would recommend waiting until after the initial break-in period (2-3k miles) before doing the first oil change. After that, every 10k seems to be more than adequate.

Default Oil change

Thanks! I will wait till 2500 miles and get it tested as well. At the same time they can fix my fuel filler issue!

Getting the oil tested is a good thing on a engine of unknown history to give a hint of condition. On a new or freshly built engine, I would change it at 1,000 miles and every 5,000 from that point on. In my 97 xJ 6 with the big oil pan, it get changed at 5,000 which it half of what I should go but changing the oil is cheap piece of mind on a engine I would not rebuild. Only wish I had done the transmission more often. For me there are a lot of car I'm servicing, so 5000 miles changes is easy to remember. Mobil 1 is what I use in everything but a 1984 Volvo 242 turbo.

Unless Mobil 1 recently reformulated, it doesn't contain enough Titanium to meet JLR specs.

The head was off because of a burnt exhaust valve a while back and I did not do the work. the old guynthat fixed it said about the same thing on the use of Mobil 1 and a waste of money. Car has had Mobil 1 since 5,000 miles and 0 wear in the cylinder at 170,000 miles and no point in changing at 195,000. The line 6 is a good engine and would do the same with any oil using 5,000 miles as the service point like this one. Time for a oil change in 400 miles so you have me thinking time to have it analyzed. The drive train on this big cat is great, everything else may be crap.

The oil type, viscosity and change interval that suits your 1997 XJ6 is not necessarily the same for a 2017 F-type.

Understood but the viscosity and type I use is not recommended. I also change the oil sooner than recommended. I'm saying change it at 1000 miles and don't go the full recommended change interval. Mobil is what I use and any modern oil should be fine but that 2017 and new, I would go with the type that recommended.

Default Oil change

i think I will do it at 2000-2400 miles and also plan on getting the oil sent in for testing.
