...just wondering how "oil- thirsty" your F-Types are...

I've got mine (F-Type R awd, model 2016) since christmas :icon_bike: ...now i reached the 3500km and my oil level looks like that :icon_nut:

is that normal? do you notice the same with your cars?

I've never added any oil between changes, and mine has always registered full.

thanks foosh... so seems to be another challenge for my dealer :) ...just some days ago i've checked oil level and as far as i remember it was nearly FULL... maybe it's just a sensor error? ...btw... is there a manual oil check stick left? :) ...would be useful now... good old mechanical analogue stuff :P

There's no dip stick in the engine, and the only way to check is on the center cluster. Everyone seems to be headed the the same direction. My 08 E93 BMW was the first car I had without one.

Mine always showed full whenever I checked. I last checked about two weeks ago, and had my oil changed middle of last week at just over 7000 miles.

And no, there is no dipstick.

that's so strange... right now i checked AGAIN and now the level is a bit higher... let's say when i shoot the photo it was about 10% level... now it shows me about 40%? what the...?

Is the engine warm? I think they specify checking hot engine, let sit for ten minutes? The owner's manual has the instructions, but I don't feel like walking out in the rain right now to fetch it and confirm.

Hmmm . . . always been checking mine cold after sitting overnight.

hmmm so i'll check tomorrow 10min after driving :-) ..sounds strange but if that's what they write in the manual... must be right, eh :-)

ok foosh so another check tomorrow morning... in my opinion that should be the right way anyways... the oil has time over night to flow back to the oil plan.

Actually, I just checked the manual and Lizzardo is right. The manual (p. 145) says check when oil has reached "working temperature (oil is hot)" waiting 10 minutes after engine shutdown.

Now, I'm going to have to compare those two readings . . . LOL.

did you stick to the "drive- in " instructions in the manual at the beginning? ...not over 4000 rpm within the first 2000km (1000miles?) ...full throttle after 3000km (1500miles?) or did you push your baby right-away? :)

I did for the most part. I probably exceeded the rpm recommendations from time-to-time, but not excessively. The main thing I did was to ensure I kept varying the rpm constantly.

BTW, just ran a 20 mile, spirited trip, returned home, waited 10 minutes, and checked the oil level. It's reading exactly the same as it did before I left and after sitting for 3 days.

I had to add ~1/2 Quart after ~11 months in. The car is up for 1 year service next week. My car has ~6000 miles and I followed the break-in schedule to the tee and also had the oil changed at 1200 miles. The car had 130 miles on it when I bought it, so who know how it was treated at that time. A little oil consumption is normal during the first year, so I feel 1/2 quart in almost 1 year is not bad.

Weird thing is that when I checked the oil, it said around 1/4 quart low. That weekend I gave her a drive and checked again and this time it said full. I then started her up and let run a bit bit, waited the full 10 minutes and then it said ~1/2 quart low. I added a bit less than 1/2 quart then checked and it then said a notch below full. It seems like if I check at 8 minutes vs. 10 minutes it shows different readings.

I just went through the oil burning saga with my other car, and I am sorry to hear you have to go through this.

The reason: All automotive manufacturers are struggling to meet emission and fuel efficiency targets, one way to do it is to switch to 0w20. Unfortunately, such oil is too thin for modern manufacturing tolerances. Some car makers are better at this than others, but all will get oil burner now and then.

The fix: You will need a new engine or at the very least new engine block.

I don't know how Jaguar will approach this, but generally they will tell you that oil burning is normal (it isn't), then will do oil consumption test, where they will ask you to bring the car every 1000km or so to determine exactly how much oil is being burned. Keep in mind, oil burning is not linear - you will burn less immediately after oil change, and you will burn a lot more as oil gets older.

I strongly suggest insisting on getting this fixed. Burning oil will shorten your catalytic converter life a great deal and such engine will never operate at optimal efficiency robbing you of power and gas mileage.

With my old xfr I was told that jag say 1ltr to a 1k is classed as acceptable I find this very difficult to beleave for a petrol engine.
Mine never used a drop in 12k but then used 1ltr in 1000 miles but guess what they fitted a new engine under warranty for a knocking noise when it was hot left for 5 minutes then restarted sounded like a London bus.

Few points.
Make sure you are checking the oil on level ground.
The Aj133 engine does not burn oil! Especially not the recommended castrol 0-20 formulated specially for this engine.
You can drain the oil to see if sensor is bad. I use a siphon tank its painless and best investment ever.
If it is actually using any oil- get a new engine while you can- or there will be tears.
Get it independently tested if need be.

Does not following the recommended breakin, with that cause oil consumption?

I wonder how many leased cars out there have the F*** driven out of them because the owners have no intention of keeping the cars?

I know someone who leases very expensive Mercedes AMG's every two years and really abuses them since he has no intention of keeping, there is no way I would want to be the who buys those cars.

Mine used a quart the first few thousand miles, then stopped drinking. I asked the dealer and I was told it was within operating parameters.

Funny about checking after driving then waiting 10 minutes.... It always took longer than 10 minutes until the system allowed me to check the oil level.

I drove it like I stole it from day one. Went 10k miles for first service, no issues or abnormal oil usage. YMMV
