Dremorg... Opti Coat is available on Auto Geek for $39.99 along with several other sealants including Pinnacle Black Diamond. All are very easy to apply if you follow the directions carefully. There are videos on You Tube to use as an aid. I have seen on this forum people are paying $1000 to get these sealants applied. That's crazy when you can do it yourself in less than hour. Save your money. I did, and got great results.

I was contemplating doing it myself but didn't want to screw it up. I'm pretty good at following direction so I'm going to take your advice & try it. Thanks MI-FType. I'll post pics before & after.

My pleasure Dremorg. It's pretty hard to screw up. Know that when you are putting it on it just takes a real thin coat and dissipates into the finish quickly. You will think it's not working and be tempted you to lay it on thicker, but there is no need. A little goes a long way. Any spots that remain "wet" looking after a couple minutes should be buffed with microfiber towel... and you are good to go! Very easy! I look forward to seeing the pics.

The problem with the sealants is the preparation of the clear coat before you apply it. Every car even brand new come with little scratches, and you need to get rid of them all before you apply the sealant. Like someone said it is easy to apply it, but to prepare the clear coat, this is a whole new level of effort. Just my 0.02 cents. BTW I am using Opticoat and it is really a great product.

Agreed. I'm going to get it professionally detailed first to get rid of all the fine scratches before I use the sealant.

A large part of having the sealant professionally applied, I would think, is the warranty. Do you receive a warranty if you purchase the product and apply it yourself? I am always a little leary of purchasing these types of items on eBay as they may be knock-offs and not the real thing.

I can't imagine what a warranty claim on a paint protection product would be unless your finish starts developing "leopard spots" or something.

The warranty will cover reapplication if it wears off. But it won't cover scratches which is the real reason you would need reapplication.

So warranty isn't worth anything in my opinion.

I would suggest Detailers Domain.

It's obvious. The hydrophobic properties of these coatings are striking.

Gtechniq EXO V2 coating applied with 2 coats. Also XPEL Ultimate film underneath the coating. Photos didn't come out well with low light in garage so will post another time. It's quite glossy for white.

Keep in mind, the Opti-Coat will require the entire vehicle to be clay-bared to ensure removal of swirls and scratches in the clear coat. You also need to apply it in a clean-room, as any particulates in the air will stick to the surface during application and will remain visible. I have neither the patience nor the clean room and will be opting to have a professional apply the protection.

Here's one of my write ups for the Pinnacle Black Label Surface Coating - Literally the easiest coating you could possibly work with. Check it out:

I really appreciate your write-up, and I'm sure your products can yield fabulous results. However, I wonder after purchasing all of the equipment and other products required, plus the amount of time involved (time is money for most of us); whether it's not just best to take it to a professional who already has the necessary tools and knowledge.

I paid a professional to put the coating on my car but then purchased the Pinnacle Black Label products to maintain it. They work with any coating and produce great results.
