I have a 2015 IRR with the Black Pack. I read that someone had painted "Jaguar" in black on the chrome side vents, anyone heard of this being done? Can't seem to find an example anywhere.
I did exactly that on both my old XFS and XFR, and on the F-Type I painted the lettering silver (my black pack included gloss black side vents).
In all cases I used left-over spray can caliper paint.
All have lasted for several years with zero fading or degradation, that caliper paint is damn tough stuff!
To apply:
1. thoroughly clean the vent, I use meths.
2. grab a medium sized artists paint brush.
3. spray a bit of the caliper paint into a small pot.
4. slather the paint into the lettering nice and thick and don't worry about a bit of excess outside of the lettering, but don't let it run onto the paintwork.
5. let dry for 10 or 15 minutes
6. gently rub or wipe the excess paint off with a microfibre cloth. You can rub it off with turps but that is hard work or you can gently wipe with acetone. If you use acetone use just a little and be very careful and gentle otherwise you will simply pull all the paint out of the letters and be back to square one. I have also used the ChipEx touch-up paint kit "blending solution" with their supplied wiping cloth and little foam block and this was the easiest method by far. Although I haven't used it for this purpose I suspect isopropyl alcohol would work well.
7. let dry for at least 30 minutes then apply a second coat, rinse and repeat with the clean up, job done!
Doing it that way with just two coats came out great for me and the vents look factory.
I forgot to add, the silver lettering on black really shows out but black lettering on chrome (like both my XFS and XFR) is almost invisible any further away than up close, there just isn't enough contrast.
Thanks for the response, your car looks very nice! Unfortunately it is my wife's favorite and get continually reminded of that. She wanted a coupe and the grey but I went with IRR and soft top. I'll try your technique, just want to do something a little different. I'll send you a pic when I'm done.
