"Place key fob as shown in picture and press start"
 

The last two times I tried to start the car, after it has sat for a few days, the above referenced caption came up on the dash. I followed the instructions by putting the key fob just below the driver side vent and the car started. After a few stop and starts it continued to start normally (with the fob in my pocket). Do I need to replace the fob battery (car is a 2015)? If so, are the options to the ***********? Thanks.

I live in the Chicago area so don't drive the car in the winter unless the roads are dry and there's no salt. Took the car out today for the first time in 2 weeks. It was covered and unlocked and started normal. Got to my destination and the key fob wouldn't lock or operate the car in anyway. Came back out afterward and the car started up fine. Thought it was a low battery in the key fob and figured I'd get home and find that the other fob operated the car fine. Well, that was not to be and I was a little concerned and that point because "what is the probability that both the fob batteries would bite the dust during the last two weeks yet still allow the car to start?" Went to the hardware store, $9.60 for two 2032 batteries, installed them and everything works perfect. Who'd a thunk?

This is not the only forum I frequent with valuable members that work in the industry. Some shops give the rest a bad name, but it is a bit demoralizing to those with integrity being painted with the same brush. I never worked at a dealer, but had an independent shop for a number of years. That word is one I choose to not use.

Easy enough that I try to do it preemptively. I also keep the batter out of my spare. I think something in the fob is awake at all times for keyless entry and even if power consumption is really low, it will die in the drawer where it lives.

I save the batter for pancakes.
