Default Power and ground wire in rear view mirror to hard wire radar

hello all,

i have a 2015 Jaguar F-Type V6S. I am trying to hard wire a radar detector - Escort Max 360 - to my rear view mirror using the power and ground wires (mirror tap) firnfirnthe life of me cannot determine which is which. The molex plug has about 5-7 different wires. I tried a voltmeter it am not getting any reading (must be doing something wrong). The rear view mirror is auto dimming and has auto high beam sensor as well so I know it’s powered.

Anyone here have any suggestions or can guide me to tapping into the right wires for this install?

Much appreciated. Thanks. .

I believe I recall a thread on this topic. There was info on mounting the unit as well. Try that, and good luck.

I wired my Valentine1 up that way. I got the pinouts on the plug from a thread here. I'll see if I can find it, but I it won't be right away.

Hmmm...
Here's an overview of wiring throughout the car:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0gff5jjwoq...rence.pdf?dl=0

Detailed harness and pinouts are in the 'WD - Wiring Diagrams' near the end of this huge document:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/t2hfjv7bas...anual.pdf?dl=0

The start of the section talks about how to decode connector number, wiring colors, etc. Section 501-09 in the wiring diagrams has the mirror harnesses and pinouts.

Looks like power should come in on a pair of blue-gray wires (on pin 1 of multiple connectors, not to be confuse with blue-gray on pin 4), and ground should be black wires on Pin 3?

Caveat: I've never looked at the actual mirror harnesses, just looking at these docs.

Thanks! i tried using the mirror tap wires/pins into the connectors but somehow didn't work. was not getting any voltage either with car off or on on the multi-meter.

Does that mean you've got it working now? If not, I can pop things apart and get some better pictures.

If you were using instructions from 2017-on, that would explain the difficulty. The wiring changed.

I didn't use a mirror-tap but I did fake it. I took some .032 safety wire and soldered some to the end of the harness, and tapped with that.

thank you so much!! I was over engineering it and trying to measure voltage. I just went with tapping into the 2 colored wires you suggested and it worked like a champ! thanks again.... much appreciated!!!

Any chance you can post a pic on the completed look? I'm struggling to see where it would be placed for optimal radar performance given the Solar film windshield stuff.

I assume none of this applies to windows with the built-in matrix of heating wires since the detector won't detect?

On page 71 in the 2017 F type owner's manual, there's a whole page on "Solar Attenuating Glass":
This type of windshield filters sunlight passing through a special laminated layer.
Electronic actuating cards, such as toll road payment cards or RF ID tags, can be fixed at the dedicated locations on the inside of the windshield. If these are located at any other part of a solar attenuating windshield, the electronic scanners may not recognize them.
The fixing location is at the top of the windshield as shown, close to the interior rear-view mirror.

There's a picture of the top of the windshield, where's the tiny black dots area both sides of the top of rearview mirror.
So I messed up & place both my radar detector & EZ tag right behind the rearview mirror, now must re-locate to the top of the windshield to the black dots area...

Thanks, but not what I am referring to.

That isn't up high enough. The horn is pointing directly at attenuating glass.
